The feed room mice can't chew into
Every ranch has the same problem in a different building: the old granary leaks, the pole shed has no door that locks, and whatever goes in the barn loft gets found by mice before November. A shipping container answers all three at once. It is welded steel on a steel frame, with door gaskets that seal shut and no gap a mouse can work open. Feed, seed, minerals, vet supplies, fencing tools and spray products stay dry, locked and unchewed.
We start with an inspected used 20' from our Kamloops yard, cut in a 36" steel personnel door for daily access, and spray closed-cell foam under the floor for sites where the ground heaves. From there you add what your operation needs: shelving and saddle racks, louvred vents or a turbine to move air over stored grain, a roll-up door for the side-by-side, or a wired-in light so you can find the calving kit at 3 a.m.

Personnel door for feed-time access
A 36" steel man door with a commercial lockset, cut in wherever you want it. Open one door with a bucket in your other hand instead of unlatching both cargo doors in the dark.
Undercarriage foam for frost-heave sites
Closed-cell spray foam on the underside of the floor. It stops the floor becoming a cold plate in January, seals the underside against ground moisture, and suits a pad that lifts and settles every spring.
Ventilation for grain, feed and chemicals
Louvred vents, roof turbines or forced ventilation, quoted per design. Moving air keeps condensation off the walls and the stored feed, and clears fumes where fertilizer and spray products are kept.
Shelving, saddle racks and parts cages
Heavy-duty shelving for mineral tubs and vet supplies, saddle racks and bridle hooks for a tack room, lockable cages for chainsaws and spray guns. Built to your layout, not a catalogue's.
Roll-up or double-door equipment access
A roll-up door on the side, or a double-door unit you can drive a quad straight through. Irrigation pumps, pipe fittings, the fencing trailer and the sprayer all stay under lock and out of the weather.
Power where there is no power
The basic electrical package roughs in a 100A panel, four LED lights, four outlets and an exterior weatherproof plug. Your electrician makes the final hookup — to the grid, a generator or a solar setup.

Who buys a farm & ranch container
Cow-calf, tree fruit, grapes, hay — and the acreage that is a bit of everything.
Cow-calf and cattle operations
Calving-season supplies, mineral, milk replacer and the vet kit in one locked, dry room near the pens. Fencing tools and hotwire spares live there the rest of the year.
Orchards and vineyards
Seasonal storage for bins, pruning gear, spray products and irrigation fittings across the Okanagan, Shuswap and Similkameen. Add a reefer unit when fruit or grapes need holding cold.
Hay, grain and feed producers

How much does a farm storage container cost in BC?
Start from the 20' Farm & Ranch Storage package above — an inspected used 20' container, a 36" personnel door and closed-cell foam under the floor, from the published starting price plus tax and delivery. Shelving, vents, a roll-up door and delivery to your gate are added as line items before you approve anything. A simple door-and-foam build comes together in days; anything with more fit-out gets a committed date in the quote.
Will a shipping container keep mice and rats out of my feed?
Steel walls, a steel roof and rubber door gaskets leave no gap at the sill and nothing on the outside for a rodent to chew through, and the foam under the floor seals the underside as well. Keep the doors closed and the gaskets in good shape and it stays sealed. The remaining risk is what rides in with the feed, so store bags on shelving or pallets rather than piled on the floor.
Do I need a permit to put a container on ALR or rural land?
Plain storage rarely needs a building permit in rural BC, and storage that serves the farm is generally an ordinary farm use on ALR land. But some regional districts and municipalities regulate sea cans through their zoning bylaw — where a container can sit, how many, and how close to a property line. One call to your local planning department before delivery day settles it.
Does a container need insulation for winter feed and tack storage?
For feed, seed and tools, no — the undercarriage foam in the package keeps the floor from being a cold plate, and a couple of vents keep condensation off the walls. For a tack room, vet supplies or anything you don't want frozen, add steel stud framing and rigid foam board from the price list; closed-cell spray foam is the pick for a heated room at a Cariboo or Kootenay elevation. Either way it is a line item you can add now or later.
Can you deliver a container to an end-of-road ranch site?
Yes — ranches, orchards and off-grid acreages are where a lot of our containers go. We deliver by tilt-deck truck and quote delivery by distance and site access. You need a level, firm spot with room for the truck to line up and back in; gravel or packed ground on blocking is fine, and frozen ground in winter often makes access easier rather than harder. Tell us about gates, creek crossings and bridge ratings and we plan the route before we leave the yard.
Can I move it or sell it later if the operation changes?
Yes. A container is a movable asset, not a permanent structure — we can relocate it to a new pasture or a new property, and a used unit with a door and shelving is easy to sell on in ranch country. If cash flow is tied up in cattle or the crop, ask about lease-to-own: monthly payments that finish in ownership, with delivery quoted up front.
