Sea Cans for Boston Bar & North Bend

(778) 694-4050

Serving Boston Bar, North Bend and the Canyon Above Hell's Gate

Boston Bar sits on the Fraser between Hope and Lytton, with North Bend across the river by bridge and Hell's Gate just downstream. It took its name from gold rush miners known as Bostons and has long been a railway town on the CN line. Households, small canyon businesses and people heading into the Nahatlatch Valley north of town use containers to keep tools, quads, firewood and camping gear dry and locked.

Pick a 20ft or 40ft, standard or high cube, or a side-door unit that opens along its length so quads roll in. Units go out inspected wind and watertight, and the quoted price is all-in, delivery included. Highway 1 through the canyon can close for rockslides or wildfire, so we check DriveBC before booking and confirm lot access for North Bend sites.

FAQ

Boston Bar shipping container FAQ

Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Boston Bar and across the Fraser Valley.

Buying in Boston Bar

Can I get a shipping container delivered to Boston Bar?

Yes. Valleyview’s delivery area covers all of British Columbia, including Boston Bar, and takes in homes, acreages, businesses, job sites and remote properties. Distance is priced into the delivery quote rather than limiting where containers go, so the questions that matter are whether the truck has a clear way in and room to set the container down.

How much does it cost to deliver a container to Boston Bar?

It’s quoted for your site by distance and access; Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone. The price depends on the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in Boston Bar, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in. Delivery isn’t included in listed container prices, but the delivery quote itself is free.

How soon can I get a container delivered to Boston Bar?

The delivery date is agreed when you order rather than promised in advance. It depends on where your container is coming from, the distance to Boston Bar, your site, and road and weather conditions. With your quote, Valleyview confirms access, quotes the delivery and gives you a delivery window, so mention any deadline you’re working to when you ask.

Do I have to come to Kamloops to buy a container for delivery to Boston Bar?

No. You can request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form and confirm the order when you accept it, all without visiting. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in Boston Bar; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot. When it arrives, you or someone you designate inspects it and signs the delivery receipt, noting any damage at that time.

Which containers can I get delivered to Boston Bar?

All three sizes, 10ft, 20ft and 40ft, can be delivered to Boston Bar. The catalogue has the new 10ft; new and used 20ft units, new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; new 40ft high cubes; and used 40ft containers in standard or high cube height. What’s in Valleyview’s yard now is on the live inventory page, other units can be sourced through partner depots, and availability is confirmed with your quote.

How do I check a container’s condition before it’s delivered to Boston Bar?

Ask for the details before you order. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit in the Kamloops yard, shown with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible, and you can ask about the floor or any other detail before you commit. For a container sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote, and inspect it again when it arrives.

See the yard inventory
Do shipping containers cost more in Boston Bar?

They can, for two reasons. Part of a container’s own price depends on where the unit is sourced, which is one reason listed prices are ranges, and delivery to Boston Bar is quoted separately for your site. Condition and, for new units, colour move the figure too. Your quote confirms the exact numbers, in Canadian dollars plus tax.

What does my site need for container delivery in Boston Bar?

A straight, clear approach for the truck and a firm, level spot for the container. For a 20ft, allow 72 feet of total clear length in a straight line, including where the container will sit, plus at least 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet of overhead clearance; a 40ft needs more, so ask. Compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete works, ideally with blocks under the corners. Before you book, walk the route in and measure the narrowest gate or gap.

Can you deliver to rural or hard-to-reach sites around Boston Bar?

Yes, and they’re quoted like any other delivery, by distance and by what the route and site need. Before booking, the route is planned the way it actually drives, including the approach, the turnaround and the set-down. Send GPS coordinates or a map pin for a site without a street address, describe gates, forks and creek crossings, and add photos of the access road and drop spot.

What size container is right for a property in Boston Bar?

Choose a 20ft if space or delivery access is tight, and a 40ft if you need volume. A 20ft gives about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage; a 40ft gives about 2,390, or about 2,690 as a high cube, but needs more room for the truck. Check the setbacks that apply to your lot before you choose, and mark the footprint with room for the doors to swing.

Does winter weather affect container delivery in Boston Bar?

It can, through the roads and through the ground. In the Fraser Valley, snow, ice or heavy rain can affect the roads and soften the ground, and weather can move a date; Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. Remote sites are planned around seasonal access windows. Clear snow from the route and drop spot, and call before delivery day if the ground is soft.

How do I look after a shipping container through the seasons in Boston Bar?

Plan for both wet weather and cold. Keep the vents clear and use desiccants to control condensation, keep snow and wet leaves off the roof, and set the container on blocks on a well-drained pad so the steel stays out of standing water. Avoid heating it on and off, put graphite or a dry silicone lubricant in the lock before winter, and check the container is still level after the thaw.

Who do I ask about shipping container rules in Boston Bar?

The local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address, usually through its planning or building department; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. If the parcel is in the ALR, say so on the first call, since that changes which office you deal with. Valleyview isn’t the permit office and can’t confirm what applies to your lot, so give them your address and what the container is for, and ask before it’s delivered.

Read the permits guide
Can I get a custom container build delivered to Boston Bar?

Yes. Site offices, workshops, cold storage and other builds are made in Valleyview’s Kamloops yard and delivered to Boston Bar like a plain container, with delivery quoted by distance and site access. Every build starts from an inspected, wind and watertight container, and one itemized quote covers the container, each modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. Timing depends on the spec and is confirmed in your quote.

Custom container builds
Is lease-to-own available for containers delivered to Boston Bar?

Yes. Lease-to-own is offered on 20ft and 40ft containers delivered to Boston Bar, with the monthly payment, the term and delivery itemized in one up-front quote. The monthly cost depends on the container’s size, condition and your delivery location. Every payment builds toward ownership, and you can ask for a payout figure at any time. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers; lease-to-own is the monthly option.

How lease-to-own works
Do you deliver to other towns in the Fraser Valley besides Boston Bar?

Yes. Deliveries in the Fraser Valley also go to Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Hope and Agassiz, along with the rest of the region. Every delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. Don’t see your community on the site? Call (778) 694-4050; Valleyview delivers to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.

How do I get a quote for container delivery to Boston Bar?

Call (778) 694-4050, email valleyviewcontainers@gmail.com, or use the quote form on the website. Say which size and condition you want, how many, and where it’s going; a postal code is enough to start, and the full address or directions are needed before you order. Photos of the access help. The quote is free, doesn’t commit you to buy, and gives one all-in price for the container and delivery.

Sizes & specs

What size container works for tractors and farm equipment?

For tractors and other tall machinery, look at a 40ft high cube first, because the door opening decides what drives in: about 8ft 5in on a high cube against about 7ft 5in on a standard container. Measure the tallest point and add six inches, and check the width, including mirrors and any loader, against the interior width of about 7ft 8in. For feed, tools and parts, the catalogue lists used 20ft and 40ft standard containers for farm and acreage storage.

New & used containers

How much rust is normal on a used container?

Surface rust is normal on a used container and is cosmetic, not structural. A used 20ft with one or two rust patches the size of your palm is fine; a unit covered in scale is not. Bubbling rust, scale rust or rust that flakes off in sheets is eating into the steel, so look closely at the bottom rails, corners and roof before you buy, and ask about any heavy rust on a specific unit.

Prices

Does a 40ft container cost twice as much as a 20ft?

Not at Valleyview’s current listed prices: a 40ft is listed at less than twice the price of a 20ft in the same condition. A used 40ft is listed at $3,300–$3,600 against $2,500–$3,000 for a used 20ft, and holds about 2,390 cubic feet to the 20ft’s 1,170. A new one-trip 40ft high cube is listed at $6,200–$7,100 against $3,700–$4,200 for a new one-trip 20ft. All prices are plus tax and delivery, and a 40ft needs more room to deliver and place, so check that your site can take one.

Buying & paying

Can I buy a shipping container online?

Not through an online checkout. The website lets you request a quote, browse the yard inventory and design a custom build in the Container Studio, but there is no payment step on the site. Valleyview sends you a quote for the container and delivery; when you accept it, Valleyview confirms the order with an invoice or confirmation, and you pay under the terms set out there.

Delivery

What if the delivery truck can’t reach the spot I want?

Then a tilt-deck can’t set the container there, which is why access is checked before delivery day. The truck must back in on a straight line with the clear length, width and overhead space the container needs. If your spot fails that test, call before delivery so the drop can be planned, whether that means clearing the route or choosing another spot. For custom homes, garden suites and bunkies, a crane lift may be quoted instead. Access problems found on the day can delay delivery.

Can a container be delivered on a steep or sloped driveway?

It depends on the grade, the surface and any tight turns, so describe the driveway when you ask for a quote and send photos or a short video taken from the road. Each route is planned before the truck leaves, including the approach, the turnaround and the set-down, so a steep or soft driveway is a reason to call before delivery day rather than on the day. However steep the approach, the spot where the container lands has to be firm and level.

Preparing your site

How much room do I need in front of the container doors?

Enough for both doors to swing fully open, plus room to load and unload. Container doors swing wide, so a spot tucked tight against a fence, wall or bank can leave you unable to open them. Check the door layout of the model you are buying and plan clear, level ground in front. Side-door models open along their length, so they need clear space along that side as well.

Compare container models

Owning a container

How do I treat rust spots on my container?

Remove the loose rust with a wire brush, clean the area, and apply a rust-inhibiting metal paint. Corten steel is rust-resistant, not rust-proof, and surface rust is cosmetic rather than structural. Rust that bubbles, scales or flakes off in sheets is a structural concern and needs a closer look. Walk around the container at least once a year and pay close attention to the roof and corners.

Permits & bylaws

What should I ask my municipality or regional district before ordering a container?

Give them your address and what the container is for, then ask five things: what zone the property is in and whether containers or accessory structures are allowed; the setbacks from property lines, septic fields, wells and watercourses; whether it counts toward lot coverage; whether a permit, siting plan, screening or finish colour is required, and any time limit; and whether ALR, floodplain, a development permit area, a strata or a covenant applies.

Custom builds

Is the colour I pick in the Container Studio the colour I’ll get?

It is a preference, not a guarantee. The studio offers forest green, container white, graphite, sandstone and coastal blue, and Valleyview confirms colour availability and any paint cost in your quote. If you need a particular colour, custom paint in a factory RAL colour can be applied at the Kamloops yard before delivery, which is easier than painting on site. Logos, lettering and full-side graphics are quoted through the container branding service.

Business & lease-to-own

Can a farm or ranch buy containers on lease-to-own or in bulk?

Yes. A farm or ranch can buy outright, spread the cost across the seasons with lease-to-own on a 20ft or 40ft container, or order several units at once with volume pricing, for example one for each yard or property. A plain container suits feed, seed and tools, and the farm and ranch storage build adds a personnel door and undercarriage insulation. Tell Valleyview about gates, creek crossings and bridge ratings on the way in so delivery can be planned.

Farm and ranch containers

Refrigerated containers

How do I get a quote on a refrigerated container?

Call (778) 694-4050 or send the contact form with what you’re storing, the target temperature, roughly how much space you need, how often the doors will open and what power is at the site. Add the delivery address and photos of the access if you can. Valleyview recommends a reefer or a conversion and quotes the container, any extras and delivery together in one itemized quote before you commit; electrical work at your site is separate.

Uses

What do people use shipping containers for in BC?

Two broad things: secure, weatherproof storage for household and seasonal overflow, farm and ranch supplies, job-site tools and materials, and business inventory; and builds that turn a container into a site office, workshop, pop-up shop, equipment enclosure, cold storage or crew housing, plus bunkies, garden suites and homes, which Valleyview quotes per design. The use decides the size, whether new or used makes sense, and which modifications, if any, are worth adding.
