Shipping Containers in Cumberland, BC
Containers for Cumberland & Comox Lake
Serving Cumberland and the West Side of the Comox Valley
Cumberland began as Union, a coal-mining company village, and took its present name in 1898 from Cumberland in England. The village sits just west of Highway 19, southwest of Courtenay and near Comox Lake, with forest trails for hiking and mountain biking close by. Valleyview Containers sells new and used shipping containers here for bikes and outdoor gear, boats and paddling gear for Comox Lake, and home workshops.
Choose a 20ft or 40ft unit in regular or high-cube height, with end doors, doors at both ends or side doors, or ask us to convert one into an insulated workshop or studio. Every container we send is inspected wind and watertight, and one figure covers it and the ferry-served delivery to Cumberland. Tell us if it is for a village lot or a rural property near the lake.

Cumberland shipping container FAQ
Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Cumberland and across the Vancouver Island & Gulf Islands.
Buying in Cumberland
Do you deliver shipping containers to Cumberland, BC?
Yes. Valleyview delivers new and used containers to homes, businesses and job sites in Cumberland and across Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, most of them set down by a tilt-deck truck that slides the container onto your prepared site. Distance changes the delivery quote rather than whether Cumberland is served; what decides whether a particular site works is the route in and the access at the drop spot.
Do listed container prices include delivery to Cumberland?
No. Listed container prices are in Canadian dollars plus tax and delivery, and delivery to Cumberland is quoted separately. Each site is quoted on its own: the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in Cumberland, the ferry crossing, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in all count. Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone; what’s free is the delivery quote itself.
How soon can I get a container delivered to Cumberland?
It’s set when you order, not promised ahead. Timing depends on whether the unit you choose is already in Valleyview’s yard or has to be sourced, plus the distance to Cumberland, access at your site, and the roads and weather. Tell Valleyview about any deadline when you ask for a quote, and the delivery window is confirmed with your order.
Is there a Valleyview container yard in Cumberland?
No. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in Cumberland; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot and is quoted delivered to your address. You don’t need to visit to buy: request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form, confirm the order when you accept the quote, and inspect the container when it arrives.
Which containers can I get delivered to Cumberland?
All three sizes, 10ft, 20ft and 40ft, can be delivered to Cumberland. The catalogue has the new 10ft; new and used 20ft units, new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; new 40ft high cubes; and used 40ft containers in standard or high cube height. What’s in Valleyview’s yard now is on the live inventory page, other units can be sourced through partner depots, and availability is confirmed with your quote.
Compare all containersCan I see a container before it’s delivered to Cumberland?
Yes, in a few ways. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit physically in the Kamloops yard, with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible. For a unit sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote. If you’re passing through Kamloops, call ahead to arrange a look in person, and inspect the container again when it arrives.
See the yard inventoryDo shipping containers cost more in Cumberland?
They can, for two reasons. Part of a container’s own price depends on where the unit is sourced, which is one reason listed prices are ranges, and delivery to Cumberland is quoted separately for your site. Condition and, for new units, colour move the figure too. Your quote confirms the exact numbers, in Canadian dollars plus tax.
What does my site need for container delivery in Cumberland?
Firm, level ground and room for the tilt-deck truck. The spot should be dry and load-bearing, such as compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete, with blocks or railway ties under the corners recommended. For a 20ft, the truck needs 72 feet of straight, clear length including the container’s final spot, 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet overhead; a 40ft needs more. Look up along the route in, too: hydro lines, branches and carport roofs all count against that overhead space.
Do you deliver to acreages and off-grid properties near Cumberland?
Yes, and they’re quoted like any other delivery, by distance and by what the route and site need. Before booking, the route is planned the way it actually drives, including the approach, the turnaround and the set-down. Send GPS coordinates or a map pin for a site without a street address, describe gates, forks and creek crossings, and add photos of the access road and drop spot.
Should I get a 20ft or 40ft container for a property in Cumberland?
Choose a 20ft if space or delivery access is tight, and a 40ft if you need volume. A 20ft gives about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage; a 40ft gives about 2,390, or about 2,690 as a high cube, but needs more room for the truck. Check the setbacks that apply to your lot before you choose, and mark the footprint with room for the doors to swing.
Does wet weather affect container delivery in Cumberland?
It can, mostly through the ground. On Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, heavy rain can leave a driveway or drop spot too soft for a loaded truck, and weather can move a date; Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. A compacted gravel pad that drains well helps, and if the ground is soft or muddy close to delivery day, call before the truck comes.
What should I do to keep a container in good shape in Cumberland?
Control condensation, since humidity is the main concern on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Keep the built-in vents clear, use desiccants, and never put gear away wet. Set the container on blocks on a well-drained pad so the steel stays out of standing water, keep vegetation off the bottom rail, and wash the outside once a year to remove dirt and any salt.
What are the rules for placing a shipping container in Cumberland?
It depends on the property and how you’ll use the container, so check before delivery with the local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. Valleyview isn’t the permit office and can’t confirm what applies to your lot. Ask about zoning, setbacks, lot coverage and whether a permit or siting plan is needed, and get the answer in writing, noting who you spoke to and when.
Read the permits guideCan I get a custom container build delivered to Cumberland?
Yes. Site offices, workshops, cold storage and other builds are made in Valleyview’s Kamloops yard and delivered to Cumberland like a plain container, with delivery quoted by distance and site access. Every build starts from an inspected, wind and watertight container, and one itemized quote covers the container, each modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. Timing depends on the spec and is confirmed in your quote.
Custom container buildsIs lease-to-own available for containers delivered to Cumberland?
Yes. Lease-to-own is offered on 20ft and 40ft containers delivered to Cumberland, with the monthly payment, the term and delivery itemized in one up-front quote. The monthly cost depends on the container’s size, condition and your delivery location. Every payment builds toward ownership, and you can ask for a payout figure at any time. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers; lease-to-own is the monthly option.
How lease-to-own worksWhere else on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands do you deliver besides Cumberland?
All of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, including Victoria, Saanich, Langford, Sidney and Duncan. Each delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. If your community isn’t listed on the site, call (778) 694-4050: deliveries also go to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.
How do I order a shipping container for delivery to Cumberland?
Start with a quote by phone at (778) 694-4050, by email, or through the website’s quote form. Include the container type, your address or postal code, your timeline and any access concerns, plus photos if the route in is tight. Quotes are free and don’t commit you to buy. When you accept, Valleyview confirms the order with an invoice or confirmation, and the delivery date is agreed at that point.
Sizes & specs
What kind of doors does a standard shipping container have?
A standard container has a pair of steel cargo doors at one end, with the hinges welded to the frame, and both doors should swing and lock cleanly. The door opening is about five inches lower than the interior ceiling. If you need access from both ends or along the side, look at a double-door or side-door container, or ask about cutting in a man door or roll-up door as a modification.
New & used containers
What colours can I get on a new shipping container?
New 20ft containers can be ordered in a range of standard factory RAL colours, such as RAL 7035 Light Grey, RAL 9010 Pure White, RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey, RAL 6007 Bottle Green and RAL 5010 Gentian Blue, and other RAL colours are available on request. Price varies by colour, so ask for current options when you request a quote. For other new sizes, ask which colours are available.
Prices
What costs aren’t covered by a Valleyview container quote?
Anything done by you, your trades or your local government. Preparing a level, firm site with clear access for the truck is the buyer’s part, so budget for any gravel pad, blocks or clearing. If a permit is required, its fees are set locally and are not part of Valleyview’s quote, nor are energy advisor, septic design or connection fees on a home or suite. Your electrician’s and plumber’s final connections are separate, and insurance is between you and your broker.
Buying & paying
I’m not sure which container I need. Can you help me choose before I order?
Yes. Tell Valleyview what you plan to store or build, how much space you have on site and your budget, and you’ll get a recommended size and condition. Choosing “Not Sure” as the container type on the quote form is fine. Before you call, measure the spot and your largest items, and walk the route the delivery truck would take, so the advice fits your site.
Delivery
Can I choose which way the container doors face when it’s delivered?
Usually, within what the truck can reach. Decide before delivery day which way you want the doors to face, include it with your site details when you ask for a quote, and confirm the exact placement and orientation with the driver on arrival. The truck backs in on a straight line and can’t turn while the container comes off, so the spot and the door direction have to suit that approach. If you’re unsure, send photos of the spot first.
What should I check when my container arrives?
Check the doors, the floor and the overall condition before you sign. Make sure both doors swing and lock cleanly, look for soft spots in the floor, and stand inside with the doors shut to look for pinholes of daylight along the roof and door seals. Under Valleyview’s terms, any damage or discrepancy has to be noted on the delivery receipt at the time of delivery.
Preparing your site
How do I keep water from pooling around my container?
Pick a spot that drains and shape the pad so water runs away from the container rather than under it. Avoid low spots and ground that floods. A compacted gravel pad helps drainage, and blocks under the corners keep the steel up off wet ground. Keep the area around the container clear of debris and brush so water can get away, and check it after heavy rain or snowmelt.
Owning a container
Should I clear snow off my container roof?
Yes. Don’t let snow, wet leaves or debris sit on the roof, because it traps moisture against the steel and is a primary cause of corrosion. Valleyview does not publish a snow-load rating for its containers, so ask Valleyview before you put equipment on the roof. Adding a roof or lean-to over a container can change how your local government treats it, so check with your municipality or regional district first.
Permits & bylaws
Does how I plan to use the container change the rules?
Yes. How you plan to use the container usually matters more than the container itself. Plain storage, temporary use on a job site, and conversion into an office, workshop or living space are separate conversations with your local government. Describe exactly what you intend, including any plan to insulate, wire or heat it later, so the answer you get covers the project you will actually build.
Custom builds
Should I choose steel stud or wood framing inside a container?
Steel stud framing is Valleyview’s standard for insulated builds, because it doesn’t rot, swell or feed mould when condensation shows up inside a steel container. Wood stud framing costs less and is available where cost matters more than moisture, but it isn’t recommended where moisture is a concern. Both are priced per container on the published modification menu, and either can be chosen in the Container Studio.
Business & lease-to-own
Can you paint a container in our company colours and add our logo?
Yes. Valleyview paints containers in factory RAL colours, matching your brand colour to the closest RAL shade and confirming it with you before painting, then applies cut vinyl logos, lettering and contact details, or full-side graphics, in exterior-rated materials. The work is done in Valleyview’s yard before delivery and quoted per design, with the container, paint, decals and delivery on one itemized price.
Container brandingRefrigerated containers
What is a reefer container?
A reefer is a refrigerated shipping container: an insulated steel box with its own refrigeration unit on one end. The unit draws air from inside, cools or heats it to the set temperature and circulates it through a T-shaped floor so the temperature stays even from bottom to top. The walls are filled with high-density polyurethane foam. Valleyview sells a 20ft reefer for cold or frozen storage.
Reefer container guideUses
Can I turn a shipping container into a workshop?
Yes. A workshop needs insulation, power and an everyday entrance besides the cargo doors. Valleyview’s workshop package starts from an inspected used 20ft and adds a steel personnel door, a barred sliding window, steel stud framing, rigid foam and a basic electrical package for your electrician to connect. Dedicated 240V circuits for a welder, compressor or electric heater, roll-up doors and benches are quoted per design. A used 20ft suits a tool crib; a new 40ft high cube gives a full shop more floor and headroom.
