Sea Cans for Apex and Nickel Plate Country
Serving Apex Mountain and the Hills West of Penticton
Apex Mountain is a ski resort community in the hills west of Penticton, about 33 km from the city by road, with Nordic trails at Nickel Plate close by for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Cabin owners and the people who run lodging on the mountain need somewhere to keep firewood, snowmobiles, snow-clearing equipment, spare linens and maintenance supplies under cover, instead of under a tarp in the snow through a long season.
From Kamloops we route through Penticton and take the mountain road west to the resort. A 20ft unit is easier to place on a cabin lot, while a 40ft, standard or high cube, can hold a lodge's equipment, and end or side doors make sorting gear simpler. Each container is checked wind and watertight, and you get one price for it and the delivery. Winter road conditions set the timing.

Apex Mountain shipping container FAQ
Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Apex Mountain and across the Okanagan & Shuswap.
Buying in Apex Mountain
Do you deliver shipping containers to Apex Mountain, BC?
Yes. Valleyview delivers new and used containers to homes, businesses and job sites in Apex Mountain and across the Okanagan and Shuswap, most of them set down by a tilt-deck truck that slides the container onto your prepared site. Distance changes the delivery quote rather than whether Apex Mountain is served; what decides whether a particular site works is the route in and the access at the drop spot.
How much does it cost to deliver a container to Apex Mountain?
It’s quoted for your site by distance and access; Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone. The price depends on the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in Apex Mountain, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in. Delivery isn’t included in listed container prices, but the delivery quote itself is free.
How long does it take to get a container delivered to Apex Mountain?
It’s set when you order, not promised ahead. Timing depends on whether the unit you choose is already in Valleyview’s yard or has to be sourced, plus the distance to Apex Mountain, access at your site, and the roads and weather. Tell Valleyview about any deadline when you ask for a quote, and the delivery window is confirmed with your order.
Do I have to come to Kamloops to buy a container for delivery to Apex Mountain?
No. You can request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form and confirm the order when you accept it, all without visiting. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in Apex Mountain; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot. When it arrives, you or someone you designate inspects it and signs the delivery receipt, noting any damage at that time.
Which containers can I get delivered to Apex Mountain?
Any unit in Valleyview’s catalogue: the new 10ft; new and used 20ft containers, plus new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; and 40ft containers, new as high cubes (one with side doors) or used in standard or high cube height. The live inventory page shows units already in Valleyview’s yard, and other units can be sourced through partner depots on request and quoted delivered to Apex Mountain. Availability, especially for the 10ft, is confirmed with your quote.
Compare all containersCan I see a container before it’s delivered to Apex Mountain?
Yes, in a few ways. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit physically in the Kamloops yard, with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible. For a unit sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote. If you’re passing through Kamloops, call ahead to arrange a look in person, and inspect the container again when it arrives.
See the yard inventoryDo shipping containers cost more in Apex Mountain?
They can, for two reasons. Part of a container’s own price depends on where the unit is sourced, which is one reason listed prices are ranges, and delivery to Apex Mountain is quoted separately for your site. Condition and, for new units, colour move the figure too. Your quote confirms the exact numbers, in Canadian dollars plus tax.
How do I prepare my site for container delivery in Apex Mountain?
A straight, clear approach for the truck and a firm, level spot for the container. For a 20ft, allow 72 feet of total clear length in a straight line, including where the container will sit, plus at least 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet of overhead clearance; a 40ft needs more, so ask. Compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete works, ideally with blocks under the corners. Before you book, walk the route in and measure the narrowest gate or gap.
Will the delivery truck fit down my lane or driveway in Apex Mountain?
It depends on whether the truck can back straight in. A tilt-deck can’t turn while the container comes off, so lanes, gates, parked cars, overhead wires and trees along the approach all matter, along with room in front of the doors once it’s down. If your spot doesn’t pass, sort it out before delivery day by clearing the route or choosing another spot, since access problems found on the day can delay a delivery.
Should I get a 20ft or 40ft container for a property in Apex Mountain?
Choose a 20ft if space or delivery access is tight, and a 40ft if you need volume. A 20ft gives about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage; a 40ft gives about 2,390, or about 2,690 as a high cube, but needs more room for the truck. Check the setbacks that apply to your lot before you choose, and mark the footprint with room for the doors to swing.
Do snow and frozen ground affect container delivery in Apex Mountain?
They can, in both directions. In the Okanagan and Shuswap, snow, ice and road conditions can move a date, and Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. Frozen ground can make some sites easier to reach, and remote sites are planned around seasonal access windows. Clear snow from the route and drop spot, and choose a spot that stays firm after the thaw.
What should I do to keep a container in good shape in Apex Mountain?
Plan for temperature swings and winter cold. Keep snow and wet leaves off the roof, keep the vents clear and use desiccants so condensation doesn’t drip on your things. Avoid heating it on and off, which is harder on a container than no heat at all. Before winter, put graphite or a dry silicone lubricant in the lock, and after the spring thaw check that the container is still level.
Who do I ask about shipping container rules in Apex Mountain?
The local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address, usually through its planning or building department; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. If the parcel is in the ALR, say so on the first call, since that changes which office you deal with. Valleyview isn’t the permit office and can’t confirm what applies to your lot, so give them your address and what the container is for, and ask before it’s delivered.
Read the permits guideCan you build a container office or workshop for a site in Apex Mountain?
Yes. Custom builds are done in Valleyview’s own yard in Kamloops, where openings are cut and framing, insulation, electrical rough-in and any paint are added, then the finished container is delivered to Apex Mountain, usually by tilt-deck. You approve one itemized quote covering the container, every modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. You can start from a sketch, photos or a design made in the Container Studio.
Custom container buildsIs lease-to-own available for containers delivered to Apex Mountain?
Yes. Lease-to-own is offered on 20ft and 40ft containers delivered to Apex Mountain, with the monthly payment, the term and delivery itemized in one up-front quote. The monthly cost depends on the container’s size, condition and your delivery location. Every payment builds toward ownership, and you can ask for a payout figure at any time. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers; lease-to-own is the monthly option.
How lease-to-own worksDo you deliver to other towns in the Okanagan and Shuswap besides Apex Mountain?
Yes. Deliveries in the Okanagan and Shuswap also go to Kelowna, West Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon and Summerland, along with the rest of the region. Every delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. Don’t see your community on the site? Call (778) 694-4050; Valleyview delivers to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.
How do I get a quote for container delivery to Apex Mountain?
Call (778) 694-4050, email valleyviewcontainers@gmail.com, or use the quote form on the website. Say which size and condition you want, how many, and where it’s going; a postal code is enough to start, and the full address or directions are needed before you order. Photos of the access help. The quote is free, doesn’t commit you to buy, and gives one all-in price for the container and delivery.
Sizes & specs
How much does an empty shipping container weigh?
Published figures put an empty 20ft standard container at about 5,070 lb (roughly 2,300 kg) and an empty 40ft standard at about 8,270 lb (roughly 3,750 kg). A high cube is a couple of hundred pounds heavier, which changes nothing about how you prepare the ground. These are general published figures, not a weighed unit. If the route to your site crosses a bridge, a culvert or a soft driveway, tell Valleyview when you ask for a quote so the delivery can be planned around it.
New & used containers
Should I buy a new or used container for storage?
For most storage, a used cargo-worthy container makes sense: it is inspected, wind and watertight and costs less than new, and cosmetic wear doesn’t affect what you keep inside. A useful rule is to buy the lowest grade that still keeps your contents dry. Choose new when looks matter, such as a customer-facing business or a branded unit, or when you want minimal rust from the start.
Compare containersPrices
What does a new 20ft shipping container cost?
A new one-trip 20ft container is listed at $3,700–$4,200 plus tax and delivery. One-trip means it was loaded once for a single voyage, so it is structurally new, with factory paint and minimal wear. New 20ft units come in a range of factory RAL colours, and pricing varies slightly by colour, so ask for the current colours when you request a quote.
Buying & paying
Can I buy a shipping container online?
Not through an online checkout. The website lets you request a quote, browse the yard inventory and design a custom build in the Container Studio, but there is no payment step on the site. Valleyview sends you a quote for the container and delivery; when you accept it, Valleyview confirms the order with an invoice or confirmation, and you pay under the terms set out there.
Delivery
How do I give directions to an off-grid site with no street address?
Send GPS coordinates or a map pin for the drop spot, plus a description of the route in: road names, gates, forks, creek crossings and the last stretch to the site. Valleyview confirms coordinates before an off-grid delivery and plans the route rather than trusting map apps where they stop being accurate. Photos of the access road and the drop spot help with the planning.
Do I need to be there when the container is delivered?
Yes. You or someone you designate must be on site during delivery to confirm placement, inspect the container and sign the delivery receipt. If you can’t be there yourself, send someone who knows exactly where the container should go and which way the doors should face, and who will check it over and note any damage on the receipt before signing.
Preparing your site
Is a compacted gravel pad good enough for a shipping container?
For a storage container, yes: a level, compacted gravel pad is one of the standard ways to set one. It gives a firm, level surface and lets water drain away rather than collect under the steel. Compact it well and check it is level before delivery day. Blocks under the four corner castings can sit on the pad to raise the frame off it. A home or other occupied build may need the foundation its drawings call for.
Owning a container
Can I get a lock box welded on when I buy a container?
You can ask for one when you request your quote. A lock box is a heavy steel shroud welded over the hasp so the padlock sits in a pocket of steel, out of reach of bolt cutters. Some containers already have one, so ask whether the unit you are buying does. If it doesn’t, Valleyview can quote welding one on as part of its modification work. For a container you already own, ask whether it can be done.
Permits & bylaws
Does the Agricultural Land Reserve affect putting a container on farmland?
It can, so check before you order. If your property is in the ALR, say so on your first call to the local government, because it can change which offices you deal with. Ask whether your intended use is allowed on the parcel and whether any approval beyond local zoning is needed. Plans to live or work in a container on ALR land call for an especially early conversation.
Custom builds
What kinds of custom container builds do you do?
Valleyview builds site offices, workshops and tool cribs, farm and ranch storage, refrigerated cold storage, pop-up shops and vendor bars, equipment enclosures, crew units for workforce camps, bunkies, garden suites and turnkey container homes. The first seven have published starting packages: a base container plus listed menu items, or a stock 20ft reefer for cold storage. Bunkies, garden suites and homes are quoted per design. For any other idea, Valleyview will tell you whether it is workable and, if it is, quote it per design.
Business & lease-to-own
Can every container in a large order match in size, grade and colour?
Yes, matching is part of how fleet orders are filled. Valleyview sources multi-unit orders at volume so the units can share the same size, condition grade and colour, and custom RAL paint and the same branding layout can be applied across the whole order. Tell Valleyview the spec you want repeated, and the quote confirms what will be matched before you commit.
Refrigerated containers
What temperatures can a refrigerated container hold?
A working reefer holds a set temperature you choose, anywhere from frozen storage up to above freezing, so one unit can serve as a freezer or a cooler. The exact range depends on the refrigeration unit, so Valleyview confirms the range of the unit you’re buying with your quote. Tell the team what you’re storing and the temperature it needs to stay at.
Uses
What does a container need for farm or ranch storage?
For seed, tools and fencing supplies, not much: steel walls and roof with sealing door gaskets keep them dry and away from rodents. Feed also needs the factory-treated plywood floor covered or replaced, with bags kept on pallets or shelving. Valleyview’s farm and ranch package starts from an inspected used 20ft with a 36-inch steel personnel door and closed-cell foam under the floor for frost-heave ground. Tack or vet supplies that must not freeze also need framing and rigid foam; shelving, vents and roll-up doors are quoted per design.
