Shipping Containers in Charlie Lake, BC
Containers for Charlie Lake Acreages and Cabins
Serving Charlie Lake and the Highway 29 Junction
Charlie Lake sits on the south shore of the lake of the same name, just north-west of Fort St. John, where Highway 29 leaves the Alaska Highway for Hudson's Hope. Lakeshore cabin owners keep boats and fishing gear for the lake's pike and walleye locked up and dry, acreage owners need room for quads, tools and snow gear, and trades working out of Fort St. John want secure storage close to the highway.
Valleyview delivers 20ft and 40ft containers to Charlie Lake from our Kamloops yard, in standard and high cube, with double-door and side-door units that make boat and equipment storage easier. Each one is inspected and wind and watertight, and you get one all-in price for container and delivery. Lakeshore lots can be tight and treed, so tell us about slope, overhead lines and your driveway before delivery is booked.

Charlie Lake shipping container FAQ
Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Charlie Lake and across the Peace Country.
Buying in Charlie Lake
Does Valleyview Containers deliver to Charlie Lake?
Yes. Valleyview’s delivery area covers all of British Columbia, including Charlie Lake, and takes in homes, acreages, businesses, job sites and remote properties. Distance is priced into the delivery quote rather than limiting where containers go, so the questions that matter are whether the truck has a clear way in and room to set the container down.
How much does it cost to deliver a container to Charlie Lake?
It’s quoted for your site by distance and access; Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone. The price depends on the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in Charlie Lake, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in. Delivery isn’t included in listed container prices, but the delivery quote itself is free.
How soon can I get a container delivered to Charlie Lake?
The delivery date is agreed when you order rather than promised in advance. It depends on where your container is coming from, the distance to Charlie Lake, your site, and road and weather conditions. With your quote, Valleyview confirms access, quotes the delivery and gives you a delivery window, so mention any deadline you’re working to when you ask.
Is there a Valleyview container yard in Charlie Lake?
No. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in Charlie Lake; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot and is quoted delivered to your address. You don’t need to visit to buy: request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form, confirm the order when you accept the quote, and inspect the container when it arrives.
Which containers can I get delivered to Charlie Lake?
Any unit in Valleyview’s catalogue: the new 10ft; new and used 20ft containers, plus new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; and 40ft containers, new as high cubes (one with side doors) or used in standard or high cube height. The live inventory page shows units already in Valleyview’s yard, and other units can be sourced through partner depots on request and quoted delivered to Charlie Lake. Availability, especially for the 10ft, is confirmed with your quote.
Compare all containersCan I see a container before it’s delivered to Charlie Lake?
Yes, in a few ways. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit physically in the Kamloops yard, with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible. For a unit sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote. If you’re passing through Kamloops, call ahead to arrange a look in person, and inspect the container again when it arrives.
See the yard inventoryDo shipping containers cost more in Charlie Lake?
They can, for two reasons. Part of a container’s own price depends on where the unit is sourced, which is one reason listed prices are ranges, and delivery to Charlie Lake is quoted separately for your site. Condition and, for new units, colour move the figure too. Your quote confirms the exact numbers, in Canadian dollars plus tax.
How do I prepare my site for container delivery in Charlie Lake?
Firm, level ground and room for the tilt-deck truck. The spot should be dry and load-bearing, such as compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete, with blocks or railway ties under the corners recommended. For a 20ft, the truck needs 72 feet of straight, clear length including the container’s final spot, 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet overhead; a 40ft needs more. Look up along the route in, too: hydro lines, branches and carport roofs all count against that overhead space.
Can you deliver to rural or hard-to-reach sites around Charlie Lake?
Yes. The service area takes in rural, remote and off-grid sites around Charlie Lake. Valleyview’s trucks run gravel roads, forest service roads and seasonal access, and each route is planned before the truck leaves: approach, turnaround and set-down, with a backup plan where a bridge weight rating is in question. Describe gates, creek crossings and the last stretch in, and send GPS coordinates or a map pin if the site has no street address.
Should I get a 20ft or 40ft container for a property in Charlie Lake?
A 20ft suits household, tool and job-site storage, and a 40ft suits larger loads if the site has room for the truck. A 20ft holds about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage, while a 40ft holds about 2,390 cubic feet, or about 2,690 as a high cube. A 10ft has half a 20ft’s footprint for tight lots, though supply is limited.
Is winter container delivery possible in Charlie Lake?
It depends on the roads in and the state of your site on the day. In the Peace Country, snow, ice and road conditions can move a date, and Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. Frozen ground can make some sites easier to reach, and remote sites are planned around seasonal access windows. Clear snow from the route and drop spot, and choose a spot that stays firm after the thaw.
What should I do to keep a container in good shape in Charlie Lake?
Plan for temperature swings and winter cold. Keep snow and wet leaves off the roof, keep the vents clear and use desiccants so condensation doesn’t drip on your things. Avoid heating it on and off, which is harder on a container than no heat at all. Before winter, put graphite or a dry silicone lubricant in the lock, and after the spring thaw check that the container is still level.
Who do I ask about shipping container rules in Charlie Lake?
The local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address, usually through its planning or building department; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. If the parcel is in the ALR, say so on the first call, since that changes which office you deal with. Valleyview isn’t the permit office and can’t confirm what applies to your lot, so give them your address and what the container is for, and ask before it’s delivered.
Read the permits guideCan you build a container office or workshop for a site in Charlie Lake?
Yes. Custom builds are done in Valleyview’s own yard in Kamloops, where openings are cut and framing, insulation, electrical rough-in and any paint are added, then the finished container is delivered to Charlie Lake, usually by tilt-deck. You approve one itemized quote covering the container, every modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. You can start from a sketch, photos or a design made in the Container Studio.
Custom container buildsIs lease-to-own available for containers delivered to Charlie Lake?
Yes. Lease-to-own is offered on 20ft and 40ft containers delivered to Charlie Lake, with the monthly payment, the term and delivery itemized in one up-front quote. The monthly cost depends on the container’s size, condition and your delivery location. Every payment builds toward ownership, and you can ask for a payout figure at any time. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers; lease-to-own is the monthly option.
How lease-to-own worksDo you deliver to other towns in the Peace Country besides Charlie Lake?
Yes. Deliveries in the Peace Country also go to Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge and Hudson’s Hope, along with the rest of the region. Every delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. Don’t see your community on the site? Call (778) 694-4050; Valleyview delivers to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.
How do I order a shipping container for delivery to Charlie Lake?
Start with a quote by phone at (778) 694-4050, by email, or through the website’s quote form. Include the container type, your address or postal code, your timeline and any access concerns, plus photos if the route in is tight. Quotes are free and don’t commit you to buy. When you accept, Valleyview confirms the order with an invoice or confirmation, and the delivery date is agreed at that point.
Sizes & specs
What are the dimensions of a 40ft shipping container?
A 40ft container is 40ft long and 8ft wide outside, and stands 8ft 6in tall in standard height or 9ft 6in as a high cube. Inside, a standard 40ft measures about 39ft 5in long, 7ft 8in wide and 7ft 10in high, for roughly 2,390 cubic feet. A 40ft high cube has the same length and width with about 8ft 10in of interior height, for roughly 2,690 cubic feet.
New & used containers
How old is a used shipping container?
It varies from unit to unit. A used container has typically spent years in shipping service, while a one-trip container’s manufacturer’s plate is usually only a year or two old. For storage, condition matters more than age: tight seals, a solid floor and only surface rust count for more than the build date. If age matters to you, ask for the details of the specific unit with your quote.
Prices
Why don’t the units on your inventory page show a price?
Each yard unit is quoted as a delivered price for your address rather than shown with a sticker price. The inventory page lists only containers physically in Valleyview’s Kamloops yard, and choosing a listing starts a quote request for that unit. For a guide to what each size and condition costs, the products page shows listed price ranges in Canadian dollars plus tax and delivery.

Can I buy a shipping container online?
Not through an online checkout. The website lets you request a quote, browse the yard inventory and design a custom build in the Container Studio, but there is no payment step on the site. Valleyview sends you a quote for the container and delivery; when you accept it, Valleyview confirms the order with an invoice or confirmation, and you pay under the terms set out there.
Delivery
What if the delivery truck can’t reach the spot I want?
Then a tilt-deck can’t set the container there, which is why access is checked before delivery day. The truck must back in on a straight line with the clear length, width and overhead space the container needs. If your spot fails that test, call before delivery so the drop can be planned, whether that means clearing the route or choosing another spot. For custom homes, garden suites and bunkies, a crane lift may be quoted instead. Access problems found on the day can delay delivery.
What should I do before the delivery truck arrives?
Walk the route from the road to the drop spot and clear it. Confirm gate width and overhead space, move parked vehicles, mark utility lines, and clear the drop area of debris, vehicles and other obstructions. Make sure the spot itself is firm, dry and level. On the day, keep children, pets and everyone else back while the operator works.
Read the delivery guidePreparing your site
Is a compacted gravel pad good enough for a shipping container?
For a storage container, yes: a level, compacted gravel pad is one of the standard ways to set one. It gives a firm, level surface and lets water drain away rather than collect under the steel. Compact it well and check it is level before delivery day. Blocks under the four corner castings can sit on the pad to raise the frame off it. A home or other occupied build may need the foundation its drawings call for.
Owning a container
How long does a shipping container last?
There is no fixed number of years. How long a container lasts depends on its foundation and drainage, how much weather and salt air it sees, whether it was new or used when you bought it, and how well it is maintained. A solid, level, well-drained base is the biggest single factor. After that, keep the roof clear, treat rust as it appears and look after the door seals.
Permits & bylaws
What happens if a container has to be moved because of a bylaw?
You pay to move it, which can mean a second delivery and a second pad. That is why the zoning and permit check belongs before delivery day, not after. Confirm the zone, setbacks and any permit with your local government, choose the spot to match, and then book delivery.
Custom builds
Why don’t container homes, garden suites and bunkies have a listed price?
Because each one is designed for its own site, and the engineering and permit-drawing work it needs depends on that site and on what the local government requires. Valleyview quotes these builds per design instead of from the modification menu, and does not publish a starting price for them. To get a price, send the civic address and what the space is for, and the quote follows once the site, services and local requirements are known.
Business & lease-to-own
Can you paint a container in our company colours and add our logo?
Yes. Valleyview paints containers in factory RAL colours, matching your brand colour to the closest RAL shade and confirming it with you before painting, then applies cut vinyl logos, lettering and contact details, or full-side graphics, in exterior-rated materials. The work is done in Valleyview’s yard before delivery and quoted per design, with the container, paint, decals and delivery on one itemized price.
Container brandingRefrigerated containers
What is a reefer container?
A reefer is a refrigerated shipping container: an insulated steel box with its own refrigeration unit on one end. The unit draws air from inside, cools or heats it to the set temperature and circulates it through a T-shaped floor so the temperature stays even from bottom to top. The walls are filled with high-density polyurethane foam. Valleyview sells a 20ft reefer for cold or frozen storage.
Reefer container guideUses
If I might convert my container later, what’s worth doing before it’s delivered?
Anything that is awkward to do on site. Closed-cell foam under the floor is simple to add in the yard and awkward once the container is on the ground; floor sealing, an overlay or a new deck is usually cheaper done in the yard while the box is empty; and paint is easier in a yard than on your site. If you know where a door or window will go, have it cut now, because adding one after insulation means cutting through your own vapour barrier.
