Containers for Erickson's Orchards and Fruit Stands

(778) 694-4050

Serving Erickson, Just East of Creston

Erickson, immediately east of Creston on Highway 3, is known for its cherry and apple orchards and the fruit stands along its main roads. It is named after an early Canadian Pacific Railway superintendent. Orchardists, fruit-stand operators and acreage owners use containers for picking bins, ladders, sprayers, packing supplies and small equipment, and a refrigerated unit can keep fruit cool between picking and sale.

A pop-up shop build turns a 20ft container into a lockable fruit stand with windows, lights and outlets. For bins and equipment, 20ft and 40ft units come regular or high-cube, with double-door and side-door options. We inspect them wind and watertight before they leave Kamloops and quote one all-in price with delivery. Between tree rows and irrigation lines, tell us how a truck can get in and turn.

FAQ

Erickson shipping container FAQ

Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Erickson and across the East Kootenay & Columbia Valley.

Buying in Erickson

Do you deliver shipping containers to Erickson, BC?

Yes. Valleyview’s delivery area covers all of British Columbia, including Erickson, and takes in homes, acreages, businesses, job sites and remote properties. Distance is priced into the delivery quote rather than limiting where containers go, so the questions that matter are whether the truck has a clear way in and room to set the container down.

How much does it cost to deliver a container to Erickson?

It’s quoted for your site by distance and access; Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone. The price depends on the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in Erickson, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in. Delivery isn’t included in listed container prices, but the delivery quote itself is free.

How soon can I get a container delivered to Erickson?

It’s set when you order, not promised ahead. Timing depends on whether the unit you choose is already in Valleyview’s yard or has to be sourced, plus the distance to Erickson, access at your site, and the roads and weather. Tell Valleyview about any deadline when you ask for a quote, and the delivery window is confirmed with your order.

Is there a Valleyview container yard in Erickson?

No. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in Erickson; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot and is quoted delivered to your address. You don’t need to visit to buy: request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form, confirm the order when you accept the quote, and inspect the container when it arrives.

What container sizes can I buy in Erickson?

All three sizes, 10ft, 20ft and 40ft, can be delivered to Erickson. The catalogue has the new 10ft; new and used 20ft units, new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; new 40ft high cubes; and used 40ft containers in standard or high cube height. What’s in Valleyview’s yard now is on the live inventory page, other units can be sourced through partner depots, and availability is confirmed with your quote.

Compare all containers
Can I see a container before it’s delivered to Erickson?

Yes, in a few ways. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit physically in the Kamloops yard, with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible. For a unit sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote. If you’re passing through Kamloops, call ahead to arrange a look in person, and inspect the container again when it arrives.

See the yard inventory
Is the listed price what I’ll pay for a container in Erickson?

The listed range is a guide to the container itself, and your quote confirms the exact figure. Where a container lands in its range depends on its condition, its colour if it’s new and where it’s sourced, which is why buyers in different towns can see different figures for the same container. Prices are in Canadian dollars plus tax, with delivery quoted separately.

What does my site need for container delivery in Erickson?

A straight, clear approach for the truck and a firm, level spot for the container. For a 20ft, allow 72 feet of total clear length in a straight line, including where the container will sit, plus at least 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet of overhead clearance; a 40ft needs more, so ask. Compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete works, ideally with blocks under the corners. Before you book, walk the route in and measure the narrowest gate or gap.

Do you deliver to acreages and off-grid properties near Erickson?

Yes, and they’re quoted like any other delivery, by distance and by what the route and site need. Before booking, the route is planned the way it actually drives, including the approach, the turnaround and the set-down. Send GPS coordinates or a map pin for a site without a street address, describe gates, forks and creek crossings, and add photos of the access road and drop spot.

Should I get a 20ft or 40ft container for a property in Erickson?

A 20ft suits household, tool and job-site storage, and a 40ft suits larger loads if the site has room for the truck. A 20ft holds about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage, while a 40ft holds about 2,390 cubic feet, or about 2,690 as a high cube. A 10ft has half a 20ft’s footprint for tight lots, though supply is limited.

Do snow and frozen ground affect container delivery in Erickson?

They can, in both directions. In the East Kootenay and Columbia Valley, snow, ice and road conditions can move a date, and Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. Frozen ground can make some sites easier to reach, and remote sites are planned around seasonal access windows. Clear snow from the route and drop spot, and choose a spot that stays firm after the thaw.

How do I look after a shipping container through winter in Erickson?

Plan for temperature swings and winter cold. Keep snow and wet leaves off the roof, keep the vents clear and use desiccants so condensation doesn’t drip on your things. Avoid heating it on and off, which is harder on a container than no heat at all. Before winter, put graphite or a dry silicone lubricant in the lock, and after the spring thaw check that the container is still level.

Do I need a permit for a shipping container in Erickson?

It depends on the property and how you’ll use the container, so check before delivery with the local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. Valleyview isn’t the permit office and can’t confirm what applies to your lot. Ask about zoning, setbacks, lot coverage and whether a permit or siting plan is needed, and get the answer in writing, noting who you spoke to and when.

Read the permits guide
Can you build a container office or workshop for a site in Erickson?

Yes. Site offices, workshops, cold storage and other builds are made in Valleyview’s Kamloops yard and delivered to Erickson like a plain container, with delivery quoted by distance and site access. Every build starts from an inspected, wind and watertight container, and one itemized quote covers the container, each modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. Timing depends on the spec and is confirmed in your quote.

Custom container builds
Can I rent a shipping container in Erickson?

No. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers anywhere in BC. If you’d rather not pay the full price up front, lease-to-own spreads it into monthly payments on a 20ft or 40ft container, with the payment, term and delivery to Erickson quoted together. Every payment builds toward ownership, you can pay out the balance early, and at the end of the term the container is yours rather than going back.

How lease-to-own works
Do you deliver to other towns in the East Kootenay and Columbia Valley besides Erickson?

Yes. Deliveries in the East Kootenay and Columbia Valley also go to Cranbrook, Kimberley, Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford, along with the rest of the region. Every delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. Don’t see your community on the site? Call (778) 694-4050; Valleyview delivers to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.

How do I order a shipping container for delivery to Erickson?

Start with a quote by phone at (778) 694-4050, by email, or through the website’s quote form. Include the container type, your address or postal code, your timeline and any access concerns, plus photos if the route in is tight. Quotes are free and don’t commit you to buy. When you accept, Valleyview confirms the order with an invoice or confirmation, and the delivery date is agreed at that point.

Sizes & specs

Are new 40ft containers standard height or high cube?

In Valleyview’s catalogue, every new 40ft container is a high cube, 9ft 6in tall, including the 40ft high cube with side doors. A standard-height 40ft at 8ft 6in is listed as a used, cargo-worthy unit, and a used 40ft high cube is listed as well. All four share the same 40ft by 8ft footprint, so the choice comes down to headroom, condition and budget.

New & used containers

How does Valleyview inspect a container before selling it?

Each container is checked against a set list before sale: the doors and seals, looking for daylight around the gaskets; the roof and seams for pinholes; the floor for soft, swollen or soaked boards; the corner castings for bends or impact damage; exterior rust; and the CSC plate and unit number. Valleyview then gives an accurate condition description, so ask for the notes on any unit you’re quoted. You can run the same checks yourself when you look at a unit.

Prices

What does a new 20ft shipping container cost?

A new one-trip 20ft container is listed at $3,700–$4,200 plus tax and delivery. One-trip means it was loaded once for a single voyage, so it is structurally new, with factory paint and minimal wear. New 20ft units come in a range of factory RAL colours, and pricing varies slightly by colour, so ask for the current colours when you request a quote.

Buying & paying

Can I get one quote for several containers?

Yes. On the homepage price list you can select more than one container and send them as a single quote request, or list each size, condition and quantity in your message or on the phone. If the units are going to different addresses, give each one, since delivery is quoted by distance and site access. Larger multi-unit orders are handled as fleet orders, with volume pricing and no fixed minimum.

Fleet and bulk orders

Delivery

Can I pick up a container from the yard myself?

Ask first, because customer pickup isn’t a published option. Valleyview delivers by tilt-deck truck, so call (778) 694-4050 to ask whether collecting the unit you want is possible and what loading it would involve. If delivery suits you better, the delivery quote is free and is priced to the site the container is actually going to.

Is there a video that shows how container delivery works?

Yes. Valleyview’s 30-second illustrated delivery guide shows the pickup and 22-foot deckover tilt trailer used for a 20ft container, the 72 feet of total clear length it needs, checking gates and overhead space, why the path must be straight, and when to call ahead. It has captions and a full transcript. The clearances shown are for a 20ft; a 40ft needs more room.

Preparing your site

Can I set a shipping container directly on dirt or grass?

It can, if the ground is firm and level, but for long-term placement Valleyview recommends a simple foundation. A compacted gravel pad keeps the steel frame out of the mud and lets water drain away, and blocks under the corners lift the frame so air moves underneath, which reduces the risk of rust. If the spot is soft or holds water after rain, choose firmer ground or call Valleyview before delivery day.

Owning a container

Are my container and its contents covered by my insurance?

Ask your insurer or broker, because Valleyview cannot tell you what your policy covers. Ask whether the container and what you store in it are covered under your existing property or equipment policy. A stored item is not automatically insured just because it is locked. Have the unit number, photos of the container and contents, and your invoice ready when you call.

Permits & bylaws

If I move my container to another property, do the approvals move with it?

Assume they do not. Approvals belong to the property and the use, so the new site’s local government decides again. For a storage container, check the zone and setbacks at the new lot. An office, bunkie or workshop may need new approvals before it is used there, and a garden suite or home moved to another lot needs its own permit and engineering review. Make that call before you book the move.

Custom builds

How do I get a quote for a design I made in the Container Studio?

Go to the review step and press Send design. Once it goes through, the studio confirms it was sent and gives you a saved-design link that reopens the exact build, and the team reviews it and follows up with an itemized quote. You can also download a build summary for your own records. No order is placed until you approve a quote, and if sending fails you can try again or call (778) 694-4050.

Business & lease-to-own

What do I need to send to get a branded container quoted?

Send your logo, the wording you want on the container, your brand colour, and the container size and delivery location. A vector logo file (AI, EPS, SVG or vector PDF) scales cleanly to container size; a JPG or PNG is accepted and assessed before anything is quoted. Say whether you want a few decals or full-side graphics, since the design drives the price.

Refrigerated containers

Who connects the power when a reefer is delivered?

Your electrician does. Valleyview sets the reefer down by tilt-deck on your pad, and a qualified electrician installs the proper outlet and wiring and makes the final connection. Line up the electrician before delivery day so the outlet is ready where the unit will sit. Once the unit is running, let it bring the box down to your set temperature before you load anything.

Uses

Can I run a pop-up shop, café or vendor bar out of a shipping container?

Yes. Valleyview’s pop-up package starts from a new one-trip 20ft, whose clean walls take paint well, and adds a personnel door, two sliding windows, steel stud framing, rigid foam and a basic electrical rough-in. Serving windows, counters, awnings, plumbing rough-in and branding are quoted per design, and espresso machines or commercial fridges need their own circuits. If you’ll sell food or drink, check with your regional health authority as well as your local government, which decides zoning and business licences, before ordering.
