Shipping Containers in North Cowichan, BC
Containers for Chemainus, Crofton & Maple Bay
Serving North Cowichan's Farmland and Seaside Towns
North Cowichan sits directly north of the City of Duncan and takes in Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay and Westholme, with Highway 1 running through it and farms and rural acreages between the communities. Forestry, construction and manufacturing are major local industries, and the valley has a long farming history. Valleyview Containers sells new and used shipping containers here for feed and farm equipment, job-site tools, small business stock and boat gear.
Valley farms can keep produce cool in a refrigerated container or store feed in a 40ft high-cube, while trades and shops in town can choose a 20ft double-door or side-door unit. Each unit is inspected wind and watertight, and the North Cowichan quote is one price that includes ferry-served delivery to your site. In the wet months, a firm, gravelled spot makes placement easier on rural ground.

Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in North Cowichan and across the Vancouver Island & Gulf Islands.
Buying in North Cowichan
Does Valleyview Containers deliver to North Cowichan?
Yes. Valleyview’s delivery area covers all of British Columbia, including North Cowichan, and takes in homes, acreages, businesses, job sites and remote properties. Distance is priced into the delivery quote rather than limiting where containers go, so the questions that matter are whether the truck has a clear way in and room to set the container down.
How much does it cost to deliver a container to North Cowichan?
It’s quoted for your site by distance and access; Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone. The price depends on the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in North Cowichan, the ferry crossing, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in. Delivery isn’t included in listed container prices, but the delivery quote itself is free.
How soon can I get a container delivered to North Cowichan?
It’s set when you order, not promised ahead. Timing depends on whether the unit you choose is already in Valleyview’s yard or has to be sourced, plus the distance to North Cowichan, access at your site, and the roads and weather. Tell Valleyview about any deadline when you ask for a quote, and the delivery window is confirmed with your order.
Do I have to come to Kamloops to buy a container for delivery to North Cowichan?
No. You can request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form and confirm the order when you accept it, all without visiting. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in North Cowichan; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot. When it arrives, you or someone you designate inspects it and signs the delivery receipt, noting any damage at that time.
Which containers can I get delivered to North Cowichan?
Any unit in Valleyview’s catalogue: the new 10ft; new and used 20ft containers, plus new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; and 40ft containers, new as high cubes (one with side doors) or used in standard or high cube height. The live inventory page shows units already in Valleyview’s yard, and other units can be sourced through partner depots on request and quoted delivered to North Cowichan. Availability, especially for the 10ft, is confirmed with your quote.
Compare all containersHow do I check a container’s condition before it’s delivered to North Cowichan?
Ask for the details before you order. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit in the Kamloops yard, shown with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible, and you can ask about the floor or any other detail before you commit. For a container sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote, and inspect it again when it arrives.
See the yard inventoryIs the listed price what I’ll pay for a container in North Cowichan?
The listed range is a guide to the container itself, and your quote confirms the exact figure. Where a container lands in its range depends on its condition, its colour if it’s new and where it’s sourced, which is why buyers in different towns can see different figures for the same container. Prices are in Canadian dollars plus tax, with delivery quoted separately.
What does my site need for container delivery in North Cowichan?
Firm, level ground and room for the tilt-deck truck. The spot should be dry and load-bearing, such as compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete, with blocks or railway ties under the corners recommended. For a 20ft, the truck needs 72 feet of straight, clear length including the container’s final spot, 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet overhead; a 40ft needs more. Look up along the route in, too: hydro lines, branches and carport roofs all count against that overhead space.
Do you deliver to acreages and off-grid properties near North Cowichan?
Yes. The service area takes in rural, remote and off-grid sites around North Cowichan. Valleyview’s trucks run gravel roads, forest service roads and seasonal access, and each route is planned before the truck leaves: approach, turnaround and set-down, with a backup plan where a bridge weight rating is in question. Describe gates, creek crossings and the last stretch in, and send GPS coordinates or a map pin if the site has no street address.
Should I get a 20ft or 40ft container for a property in North Cowichan?
Choose a 20ft if space or delivery access is tight, and a 40ft if you need volume. A 20ft gives about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage; a 40ft gives about 2,390, or about 2,690 as a high cube, but needs more room for the truck. Check the setbacks that apply to your lot before you choose, and mark the footprint with room for the doors to swing.
Is winter container delivery possible in North Cowichan?
It depends on the roads in and the state of your site on the day. On Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, heavy rain can leave a driveway or drop spot too soft for a loaded truck, and weather can move a date; Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. A compacted gravel pad that drains well helps, and if the ground is soft or muddy close to delivery day, call before the truck comes.
How do I keep a shipping container dry inside in North Cowichan?
Control condensation, since humidity is the main concern on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Keep the built-in vents clear, use desiccants, and never put gear away wet. Set the container on blocks on a well-drained pad so the steel stays out of standing water, keep vegetation off the bottom rail, and wash the outside once a year to remove dirt and any salt.
Do I need a permit for a shipping container in North Cowichan?
It depends on your property and how you’ll use the container, so ask the local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address before ordering; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. The answer can change if you modify the container or live or work in it. Ask about the zone, setbacks, lot coverage, any permit or siting plan, and whether ALR, a floodplain or a covenant applies, then get the answer in writing.
Read the permits guideCan I get a custom container build delivered to North Cowichan?
Yes. Site offices, workshops, cold storage and other builds are made in Valleyview’s Kamloops yard and delivered to North Cowichan like a plain container, with delivery quoted by distance and site access. Every build starts from an inspected, wind and watertight container, and one itemized quote covers the container, each modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. Timing depends on the spec and is confirmed in your quote.
Custom container buildsCan I pay monthly for a shipping container in North Cowichan?
Yes, through lease-to-own, the only financing Valleyview offers. You get one up-front quote for a 20ft or 40ft container that itemizes the monthly payment, the term and delivery to North Cowichan. Every payment builds toward ownership, you can pay out the balance early whenever you like, and at the end of the term the container is yours. The monthly cost depends on the container’s size, condition and your delivery location. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers, so lease-to-own is the monthly option.
How lease-to-own worksWhere else on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands do you deliver besides North Cowichan?
All of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, including Victoria, Saanich, Langford, Sidney and Duncan. Each delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. If your community isn’t listed on the site, call (778) 694-4050: deliveries also go to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.
How do I order a shipping container for delivery to North Cowichan?
Start with a quote by phone at (778) 694-4050, by email, or through the website’s quote form. Include the container type, your address or postal code, your timeline and any access concerns, plus photos if the route in is tight. Quotes are free and don’t commit you to buy. When you accept, Valleyview confirms the order with an invoice or confirmation, and the delivery date is agreed at that point.
Sizes & specs
Can I get a 20ft high cube container?
Not as a catalogue item: Valleyview lists every 20ft at the standard 8ft 6in height. High cube 20ft containers exist, but they are uncommon in Canada and usually cost disproportionately more, so most 20ft units on the ground are standard height. If you need the extra foot of headroom, the 40ft high cube is the common tall unit. If your project needs a 20ft high cube, call Valleyview to talk through the options.
New & used containers
What does “wind and watertight” mean?
It means the shell keeps weather out: no daylight through the walls or roof, and no leaks at the roof, seams or door seals. Valleyview inspects its containers for wind and watertight condition before sale. It does not mean the inside stays dry in every season, because condensation can form on the steel when temperatures swing, even in a container with no leaks. Vents, desiccants or insulation help with that.
Prices
How much does a 20ft double-door container cost?
A new 20ft double-door container, also called a tunnel container, is listed at $4,600–$5,000 plus tax and delivery. It has full cargo doors at both ends, so you can load from either end and reach the back without climbing over stored items. For comparison, a new 20ft with doors at one end only is listed at $3,700–$4,200. Your quote confirms the price along with delivery to your site.
Buying & paying
I’m not sure which container I need. Can you help me choose before I order?
Yes. Tell Valleyview what you plan to store or build, how much space you have on site and your budget, and you’ll get a recommended size and condition. Choosing “Not Sure” as the container type on the quote form is fine. Before you call, measure the spot and your largest items, and walk the route the delivery truck would take, so the advice fits your site.
Delivery
Can a container be delivered on a steep or sloped driveway?
It depends on the grade, the surface and any tight turns, so describe the driveway when you ask for a quote and send photos or a short video taken from the road. Each route is planned before the truck leaves, including the approach, the turnaround and the set-down, so a steep or soft driveway is a reason to call before delivery day rather than on the day. However steep the approach, the spot where the container lands has to be firm and level.
Can you deliver a container to a construction or job site?
Yes. A job site needs the same things as any delivery: firm, level ground where the container will sit and a straight, clear approach for the tilt-deck truck, with room overhead. Keep that path free of parked machines, material piles and people on the day, and name a site contact who can meet the driver, confirm placement and sign the delivery receipt. Site requirements are confirmed when you get your quote.
Preparing your site
Is a compacted gravel pad good enough for a shipping container?
For a storage container, yes: a level, compacted gravel pad is one of the standard ways to set one. It gives a firm, level surface and lets water drain away rather than collect under the steel. Compact it well and check it is level before delivery day. Blocks under the four corner castings can sit on the pad to raise the frame off it. A home or other occupied build may need the foundation its drawings call for.
Owning a container
Should I run a heater in my storage container over the winter?
Not on and off. Intermittent heating is harder on a container than no heating at all, because each warm-up and cool-down takes the inside air through the dew point and leaves moisture on the cold steel. If you plan to heat the space, insulate it first with foam that seals against the steel, starting with the ceiling. For storage you never heat, rely on vents, desiccant and keeping wet gear out.
Permits & bylaws
Can I put a container garden suite or ADU on my lot?
Your local zoning bylaw decides first, so check with your municipality or regional district before anything else. Ask which term the bylaw uses, the floor area and height limits, setbacks and separation from the house, servicing, parking, which energy requirements apply, whether engineered drawings are required, and whether ALR, a strata or a covenant affects the lot. A suite is a dwelling, so expect a building permit. Valleyview quotes suites per project once it has your address and a floor plan.
Garden suite guideCustom builds
What information do you need to quote a custom container?
Start with how you will use the space, then the size you have in mind, the doors, windows, insulation and power you need, where that power will come from, the delivery address and what site access is like. For equipment enclosures, include the equipment’s spec sheet. For anything people will occupy, give the civic address early, because rules differ between municipalities and regional districts.
Business & lease-to-own
How is a fleet or bulk container order priced?
Per unit, with pricing that improves as the quantity goes up and no fixed minimum to qualify. Tell Valleyview how many containers you need, the sizes and condition, and where each one is going, and the quote shows the per-unit price for that order size, with delivery itemized line by line. Branding, paint or modifications for the whole order can be quoted on the same document.
Bulk container salesRefrigerated containers
What if my site doesn’t have 3-phase power for a refrigerated container?
Two routes are open: a diesel generator if the site is remote or off the grid, or a converted standard container instead of a reefer. On an off-grid site, an external diesel generator can power a reefer’s refrigeration unit. A conversion is a 20ft or 40ft container insulated and fitted with a bolt-on refrigeration unit specified for the power already on site, including single-phase service, quoted per design. Before deciding, ask your electrician what your current service can support.
Uses
Can a shipping container be used as a site office?
Yes. A site office needs insulation, a lockable personnel door, window positions settled before any steel is cut, and power roughed in for your electrician to connect to a construction service, a generator or a permanent drop. A used 20ft base suits an office that moves between jobs; a new one-trip base suits a permanent office customers see. Valleyview’s insulated site office package covers the shell, and finished walls, heat and furniture are quoted per design. People work inside, so confirm permit requirements with your local government first.
