Shipping Containers in Ucluelet, BC
Containers for Ucluelet & Barkley Sound
Serving Ucluelet, from the Harbour to Amphitrite Point
Ucluelet sits on its own peninsula at the western edge of Barkley Sound, with the Wild Pacific Trail passing Amphitrite Point Lighthouse and the Long Beach unit of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve between here and Tofino. Fishing and logging built the town, and tourism now leads the local economy. Valleyview Containers sells new and used shipping containers here for tourism operators, guest accommodations, fishing gear, trades and households short on space.
Fishing and food-service operators can choose a refrigerated container, tourism businesses a custom pop-up shop or vendor bar, and dry storage comes in 20ft or 40ft lengths, standard or high-cube. We inspect each one wind and watertight, and one all-in quote takes in the ferry and the drive over Highway 4 and down the peninsula to town. That route is long and winding, so we confirm site access first.

Ucluelet shipping container FAQ
Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Ucluelet and across the Vancouver Island & Gulf Islands.
Buying in Ucluelet
Can I get a shipping container delivered to Ucluelet?
Yes. Valleyview’s delivery area covers all of British Columbia, including Ucluelet, and takes in homes, acreages, businesses, job sites and remote properties. Distance is priced into the delivery quote rather than limiting where containers go, so the questions that matter are whether the truck has a clear way in and room to set the container down.
Do listed container prices include delivery to Ucluelet?
No. Listed container prices are in Canadian dollars plus tax and delivery, and delivery to Ucluelet is quoted separately. Each site is quoted on its own: the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in Ucluelet, the ferry crossing, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in all count. Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone; what’s free is the delivery quote itself.
How long does it take to get a container delivered to Ucluelet?
The delivery date is agreed when you order rather than promised in advance. It depends on where your container is coming from, the distance to Ucluelet, your site, and road and weather conditions. With your quote, Valleyview confirms access, quotes the delivery and gives you a delivery window, so mention any deadline you’re working to when you ask.
Is there a Valleyview container yard in Ucluelet?
No. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in Ucluelet; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot and is quoted delivered to your address. You don’t need to visit to buy: request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form, confirm the order when you accept the quote, and inspect the container when it arrives.
Which containers can I get delivered to Ucluelet?
Any unit in Valleyview’s catalogue: the new 10ft; new and used 20ft containers, plus new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; and 40ft containers, new as high cubes (one with side doors) or used in standard or high cube height. The live inventory page shows units already in Valleyview’s yard, and other units can be sourced through partner depots on request and quoted delivered to Ucluelet. Availability, especially for the 10ft, is confirmed with your quote.
Compare all containersCan I see a container before it’s delivered to Ucluelet?
Yes, in a few ways. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit physically in the Kamloops yard, with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible. For a unit sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote. If you’re passing through Kamloops, call ahead to arrange a look in person, and inspect the container again when it arrives.
See the yard inventoryIs the listed price what I’ll pay for a container in Ucluelet?
The listed range is a guide to the container itself, and your quote confirms the exact figure. Where a container lands in its range depends on its condition, its colour if it’s new and where it’s sourced, which is why buyers in different towns can see different figures for the same container. Prices are in Canadian dollars plus tax, with delivery quoted separately.
How do I prepare my site for container delivery in Ucluelet?
A straight, clear approach for the truck and a firm, level spot for the container. For a 20ft, allow 72 feet of total clear length in a straight line, including where the container will sit, plus at least 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet of overhead clearance; a 40ft needs more, so ask. Compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete works, ideally with blocks under the corners. Before you book, walk the route in and measure the narrowest gate or gap.
Do you deliver to acreages and off-grid properties near Ucluelet?
Yes. The service area takes in rural, remote and off-grid sites around Ucluelet. Valleyview’s trucks run gravel roads, forest service roads and seasonal access, and each route is planned before the truck leaves: approach, turnaround and set-down, with a backup plan where a bridge weight rating is in question. Describe gates, creek crossings and the last stretch in, and send GPS coordinates or a map pin if the site has no street address.
What size container is right for a property in Ucluelet?
A 20ft suits household, tool and job-site storage, and a 40ft suits larger loads if the site has room for the truck. A 20ft holds about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage, while a 40ft holds about 2,390 cubic feet, or about 2,690 as a high cube. A 10ft has half a 20ft’s footprint for tight lots, though supply is limited.
Does wet weather affect container delivery in Ucluelet?
It can, mostly through the ground. On Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, heavy rain can leave a driveway or drop spot too soft for a loaded truck, and weather can move a date; Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. A compacted gravel pad that drains well helps, and if the ground is soft or muddy close to delivery day, call before the truck comes.
What should I do to keep a container in good shape in Ucluelet?
Control condensation, since humidity is the main concern on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Keep the built-in vents clear, use desiccants, and never put gear away wet. Set the container on blocks on a well-drained pad so the steel stays out of standing water, keep vegetation off the bottom rail, and wash the outside once a year to remove dirt and any salt.
What are the rules for placing a shipping container in Ucluelet?
It depends on your property and how you’ll use the container, so ask the local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address before ordering; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. The answer can change if you modify the container or live or work in it. Ask about the zone, setbacks, lot coverage, any permit or siting plan, and whether ALR, a floodplain or a covenant applies, then get the answer in writing.
Read the permits guideCan I get a custom container build delivered to Ucluelet?
Yes. Custom builds are done in Valleyview’s own yard in Kamloops, where openings are cut and framing, insulation, electrical rough-in and any paint are added, then the finished container is delivered to Ucluelet, usually by tilt-deck. You approve one itemized quote covering the container, every modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. You can start from a sketch, photos or a design made in the Container Studio.
Custom container buildsCan I rent a shipping container in Ucluelet?
No. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers anywhere in BC. If you’d rather not pay the full price up front, lease-to-own spreads it into monthly payments on a 20ft or 40ft container, with the payment, term and delivery to Ucluelet quoted together. Every payment builds toward ownership, you can pay out the balance early, and at the end of the term the container is yours rather than going back.
How lease-to-own worksDo you deliver to other towns on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands besides Ucluelet?
Yes. Deliveries on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands also go to Victoria, Saanich, Langford, Sidney and Duncan, along with the rest of the region. Every delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. Don’t see your community on the site? Call (778) 694-4050; Valleyview delivers to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.
How do I order a shipping container for delivery to Ucluelet?
Start with a quote by phone at (778) 694-4050, by email, or through the website’s quote form. Include the container type, your address or postal code, your timeline and any access concerns, plus photos if the route in is tight. Quotes are free and don’t commit you to buy. When you accept, Valleyview confirms the order with an invoice or confirmation, and the delivery date is agreed at that point.
Sizes & specs
How much weight can a shipping container hold?
Valleyview’s catalogue lists a maximum payload of 10,000 kg for a 10ft, 25,000 kg for a 20ft and 28,600 kg for a 40ft, standard or high cube. These are catalogue figures rather than the rating of a specific unit, so mention any unusually heavy load when you ask for a quote. On a standard dry container the floor is plywood or bamboo over steel cross-members, and it carries things like pallet racking, a welder, a quad or a pallet jack.
New & used containers
Which grade should I buy if I might sell the container or ship it overseas later?
If you might ship it overseas one day, stick to one-trip or cargo-worthy, the two grades that still carry cargo, and ask whether the specific unit has a CSC plate, which international shipping requires. No one can promise what a container will be worth later, so buy for the job in front of you. Whatever the grade, a container kept on a level, well-drained pad, with its rust treated and its door seals cared for, stays in better shape.
Prices
What does a new 40ft high cube container cost?
A new one-trip 40ft high cube is listed at $6,200–$7,100 plus tax and delivery. It’s a foot taller than a standard container and holds about 2,690 cubic feet, with clean factory paint and a manufacturer’s warranty. If you also want full-length side access, the new 40ft high cube side-door container is listed at $9,000–$10,000. A high cube rides about a foot higher on the delivery truck, so check overhead clearance along the route to your drop spot.
Buying & paying
What payment methods do you accept for a shipping container?
Valleyview’s listed payment methods are cash, cheque and bank transfer. The payment terms for your order, including any deposit and when the balance is due, are set out on your invoice, so confirm how you’ll pay when you accept your quote rather than on delivery day.
Delivery
Can you deliver several containers to the same site?
Yes. Several containers can go to one site, and multi-unit deliveries are coordinated. Plan the layout before delivery day: the truck needs a straight run to each unit’s spot and room to turn around, so set the order of drops so a container already set down doesn’t block the run to the next. Leave room in front of each set of doors. Send a sketch or photos of the layout with your quote request so the drops can be planned.
Bulk container ordersWhat should I do before the delivery truck arrives?
Walk the route from the road to the drop spot and clear it. Confirm gate width and overhead space, move parked vehicles, mark utility lines, and clear the drop area of debris, vehicles and other obstructions. Make sure the spot itself is firm, dry and level. On the day, keep children, pets and everyone else back while the operator works.
Read the delivery guidePreparing your site
How much room do I need in front of the container doors?
Enough for both doors to swing fully open, plus room to load and unload. Container doors swing wide, so a spot tucked tight against a fence, wall or bank can leave you unable to open them. Check the door layout of the model you are buying and plan clear, level ground in front. Side-door models open along their length, so they need clear space along that side as well.

Are my container and its contents covered by my insurance?
Ask your insurer or broker, because Valleyview cannot tell you what your policy covers. Ask whether the container and what you store in it are covered under your existing property or equipment policy. A stored item is not automatically insured just because it is locked. Have the unit number, photos of the container and contents, and your invoice ready when you call.
Permits & bylaws
How much does a container permit cost, and how long does approval take?
Valleyview cannot give a number for either, because neither is Valleyview’s to control. Review time depends on your municipality or regional district and on whether the application is complete the first time. Permit fees are set locally and are not part of Valleyview’s quote, and neither are energy advisor, septic design or connection fees. On a custom build, the quote lists what engineering coordination it includes. Ask the building department about fees and review time before you plan your schedule.
Custom builds
Should I choose steel stud or wood framing inside a container?
Steel stud framing is Valleyview’s standard for insulated builds, because it doesn’t rot, swell or feed mould when condensation shows up inside a steel container. Wood stud framing costs less and is available where cost matters more than moisture, but it isn’t recommended where moisture is a concern. Both are priced per container on the published modification menu, and either can be chosen in the Container Studio.
Business & lease-to-own
Can containers on one order go to different sites, or arrive in stages?
Yes. A fleet order can go to several sites on one coordinated schedule, and you can take delivery in phases as each site comes online. List every address and its access in your quote request, since each delivery is quoted by distance and site access, and name someone at each site to meet the driver, confirm placement, inspect the container and sign the delivery receipt. The whole order runs on one quote, one invoice and one contact.
Refrigerated containers
What is a reefer container?
A reefer is a refrigerated shipping container: an insulated steel box with its own refrigeration unit on one end. The unit draws air from inside, cools or heats it to the set temperature and circulates it through a T-shaped floor so the temperature stays even from bottom to top. The walls are filled with high-density polyurethane foam. Valleyview sells a 20ft reefer for cold or frozen storage.
Reefer container guideUses
Can a shipping container secure tools and materials on a construction site?
Yes. A container gives a crew a lockable steel room on site, so tools and materials stay overnight instead of riding home in the trucks. A welded lock box over a puck lock is the usual job-site setup, with the doors facing where people can see them. If the crew needs heat and power, it can be fitted out as a tool crib or workshop. When the job ends, it lifts back onto a tilt-deck for the next site; call Valleyview to ask about the move.
