Shipping Containers in West Vancouver, BC
Sea Cans for West Vancouver's Mountainside Lots
Serving West Vancouver from Ambleside to Caulfeild
West Vancouver rises from the Ambleside and Dundarave waterfront up the side of the Coast Mountains toward Cypress Provincial Park, so many of its homes sit on sloped lots. Valleyview Containers sells new and used shipping containers here to homeowners clearing rooms for a renovation or rebuild, builders who need a lockable place for tools and materials, and households keeping boating and ski gear dry through the wet coastal winters.
Pick a 20ft or 40ft container, standard or high cube, with doors at one end, both ends or along the side. Each passes a wind and watertight check, and your quote rolls container and delivery into one figure. Loaded trucks reach West Vancouver over the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge and the Upper Levels Highway rather than the Lions Gate. Mention your driveway's pitch when you ask.

West Vancouver shipping container FAQ
Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in West Vancouver and across the Metro Vancouver.
Buying in West Vancouver
Can I get a shipping container delivered to West Vancouver?
Yes. Valleyview’s delivery area covers all of British Columbia, including West Vancouver, and takes in homes, acreages, businesses, job sites and remote properties. Distance is priced into the delivery quote rather than limiting where containers go, so the questions that matter are whether the truck has a clear way in and room to set the container down.
How much does it cost to deliver a container to West Vancouver?
It’s quoted for your site by distance and access; Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone. The price depends on the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in West Vancouver, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in. Delivery isn’t included in listed container prices, but the delivery quote itself is free.
How soon can I get a container delivered to West Vancouver?
It’s set when you order, not promised ahead. Timing depends on whether the unit you choose is already in Valleyview’s yard or has to be sourced, plus the distance to West Vancouver, access at your site, and the roads and weather. Tell Valleyview about any deadline when you ask for a quote, and the delivery window is confirmed with your order.
Do I have to come to Kamloops to buy a container for delivery to West Vancouver?
No. You can request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form and confirm the order when you accept it, all without visiting. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in West Vancouver; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot. When it arrives, you or someone you designate inspects it and signs the delivery receipt, noting any damage at that time.
Which containers can I get delivered to West Vancouver?
All three sizes, 10ft, 20ft and 40ft, can be delivered to West Vancouver. The catalogue has the new 10ft; new and used 20ft units, new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; new 40ft high cubes; and used 40ft containers in standard or high cube height. What’s in Valleyview’s yard now is on the live inventory page, other units can be sourced through partner depots, and availability is confirmed with your quote.
Compare all containersHow do I check a container’s condition before it’s delivered to West Vancouver?
Ask for the details before you order. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit in the Kamloops yard, shown with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible, and you can ask about the floor or any other detail before you commit. For a container sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote, and inspect it again when it arrives.
See the yard inventoryIs the listed price what I’ll pay for a container in West Vancouver?
The listed range is a guide to the container itself, and your quote confirms the exact figure. Where a container lands in its range depends on its condition, its colour if it’s new and where it’s sourced, which is why buyers in different towns can see different figures for the same container. Prices are in Canadian dollars plus tax, with delivery quoted separately.
What does my site need for container delivery in West Vancouver?
A straight, clear approach for the truck and a firm, level spot for the container. For a 20ft, allow 72 feet of total clear length in a straight line, including where the container will sit, plus at least 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet of overhead clearance; a 40ft needs more, so ask. Compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete works, ideally with blocks under the corners. Before you book, walk the route in and measure the narrowest gate or gap.
Will the delivery truck fit down my lane or driveway in West Vancouver?
It depends on whether the truck can back straight in. A tilt-deck can’t turn while the container comes off, so lanes, gates, parked cars, overhead wires and trees along the approach all matter, along with room in front of the doors once it’s down. If your spot doesn’t pass, sort it out before delivery day by clearing the route or choosing another spot, since access problems found on the day can delay a delivery.
What size container is right for a property in West Vancouver?
Choose a 20ft if space or delivery access is tight, and a 40ft if you need volume. A 20ft gives about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage; a 40ft gives about 2,390, or about 2,690 as a high cube, but needs more room for the truck. Check the setbacks that apply to your lot before you choose, and mark the footprint with room for the doors to swing.
Does wet weather affect container delivery in West Vancouver?
It can, mostly through the ground. In Metro Vancouver, heavy rain can leave a driveway or drop spot too soft for a loaded truck, and weather can move a date; Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. A compacted gravel pad that drains well helps, and if the ground is soft or muddy close to delivery day, call before the truck comes.
How do I keep a shipping container dry inside in West Vancouver?
Control condensation, since humidity is the main concern in Metro Vancouver. Keep the built-in vents clear, use desiccants, and never put gear away wet. Set the container on blocks on a well-drained pad so the steel stays out of standing water, keep vegetation off the bottom rail, and wash the outside once a year to remove dirt and any salt.
Do I need a permit for a shipping container in West Vancouver?
It depends on the property and how you’ll use the container, so check before delivery with the local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. Valleyview isn’t the permit office and can’t confirm what applies to your lot. Ask about zoning, setbacks, lot coverage and whether a permit or siting plan is needed, and get the answer in writing, noting who you spoke to and when.
Read the permits guideCan you build a container office or workshop for a site in West Vancouver?
Yes. Site offices, workshops, cold storage and other builds are made in Valleyview’s Kamloops yard and delivered to West Vancouver like a plain container, with delivery quoted by distance and site access. Every build starts from an inspected, wind and watertight container, and one itemized quote covers the container, each modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. Timing depends on the spec and is confirmed in your quote.
Custom container buildsCan I rent a shipping container in West Vancouver?
No. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers anywhere in BC. If you’d rather not pay the full price up front, lease-to-own spreads it into monthly payments on a 20ft or 40ft container, with the payment, term and delivery to West Vancouver quoted together. Every payment builds toward ownership, you can pay out the balance early, and at the end of the term the container is yours rather than going back.
How lease-to-own worksWhere else in Metro Vancouver do you deliver besides West Vancouver?
All of Metro Vancouver, including Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond and Coquitlam. Each delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. If your community isn’t listed on the site, call (778) 694-4050: deliveries also go to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.
How do I get a quote for container delivery to West Vancouver?
Call (778) 694-4050, email valleyviewcontainers@gmail.com, or use the quote form on the website. Say which size and condition you want, how many, and where it’s going; a postal code is enough to start, and the full address or directions are needed before you order. Photos of the access help. The quote is free, doesn’t commit you to buy, and gives one all-in price for the container and delivery.
Sizes & specs
How do I know if my items will fit through a container’s doors?
Compare your tallest item with the door opening, not the ceiling. The opening is about five inches lower than the interior height: roughly 7ft 5in on a standard container and 8ft 5in on a high cube. Measure the tallest item, add six inches for forklift tines or a ramp angle, and pick the container that clears that number. Interior width is about 7ft 8in; ask Valleyview to confirm the door opening width on the unit you are buying.
New & used containers
What does “one-trip” mean on a new container?
One-trip means the container was manufactured overseas, loaded once for a single voyage to North America, then sold. It is structurally new with minimal wear: straight walls, intact paint, tight door seals and a manufacturer’s plate only a year or two old. Valleyview’s new 20ft containers, including the double-door and side-door units, and its new 40ft high cubes are listed as one-trip.
Prices
What does a side-door shipping container cost?
A new 20ft side-door container is listed at $6,600–$9,000 and a new 40ft high cube side-door container at $9,000–$10,000, plus tax and delivery. Side-door units open along the full length of one wall, so you can reach any point inside without moving other things, which suits tool and parts storage, workshops and retail setups. Tell Valleyview which size you need and the quote will price it with delivery to your site.
Buying & paying
What payment methods do you accept for a shipping container?
Valleyview’s listed payment methods are cash, cheque and bank transfer. The payment terms for your order, including any deposit and when the balance is due, are set out on your invoice, so confirm how you’ll pay when you accept your quote rather than on delivery day.
Delivery
Do I need to be there when the container is delivered?
Yes. You or someone you designate must be on site during delivery to confirm placement, inspect the container and sign the delivery receipt. If you can’t be there yourself, send someone who knows exactly where the container should go and which way the doors should face, and who will check it over and note any damage on the receipt before signing.
Can I pick up a container from the yard myself?
Ask first, because customer pickup isn’t a published option. Valleyview delivers by tilt-deck truck, so call (778) 694-4050 to ask whether collecting the unit you want is possible and what loading it would involve. If delivery suits you better, the delivery quote is free and is priced to the site the container is actually going to.
Preparing your site
Should the blocks or pad be in place before the container arrives?
Yes. Build, compact and level the pad before delivery day, and have any blocks ready and level with each other. Valleyview’s delivery guide lists both as part of preparing the site. Tell Valleyview what the container will sit on when you book: the trailer tilts and the container slides onto whatever is underneath it, so the drop is planned around your supports. Keep the spot clear of debris and vehicles as well.
Owning a container
What shouldn’t I store in a shipping container?
Don’t put anything away wet, since damp gear adds to condensation, and keep moisture-sensitive items off the floor with the vents clear. For fuel, propane and chemicals, follow the product label and check your local fire and storage rules before keeping them in any closed building. If the container will hold food or feed, or house animals, cover or replace the factory-treated plywood floor first. Perishable food needs a refrigerated container rather than a plain storage unit.
Permits & bylaws
How much does a container permit cost, and how long does approval take?
Valleyview cannot give a number for either, because neither is Valleyview’s to control. Review time depends on your municipality or regional district and on whether the application is complete the first time. Permit fees are set locally and are not part of Valleyview’s quote, and neither are energy advisor, septic design or connection fees. On a custom build, the quote lists what engineering coordination it includes. Ask the building department about fees and review time before you plan your schedule.
Custom builds
On a turnkey container home or garden suite, what does Valleyview handle and what do I handle?
Valleyview coordinates the engineer, prepares permit-ready drawings, builds the structural modifications, insulation, rough-in and finished interior in its Kamloops yard, then delivers and sets it on your foundation. You decide the layout, finishes, foundation and servicing, and the permit is issued in your name, with Valleyview answering the building department’s questions on the drawings. Licensed electricians and plumbers in your area make the final connections.
Container homesBusiness & lease-to-own
Can you paint a container in our company colours and add our logo?
Yes. Valleyview paints containers in factory RAL colours, matching your brand colour to the closest RAL shade and confirming it with you before painting, then applies cut vinyl logos, lettering and contact details, or full-side graphics, in exterior-rated materials. The work is done in Valleyview’s yard before delivery and quoted per design, with the container, paint, decals and delivery on one itemized price.
Container brandingRefrigerated containers
What happens to a reefer if the power goes out?
The refrigeration unit only holds your set temperature while it has power. The foam-filled walls help limit temperature swings, but how long the inside stays cold depends on the load, the set point and the weather, so plan for outages before you load product that can’t be allowed to warm up. Temperature monitoring can be added, quoted per design, so you know whether the box held overnight.
Uses
Can I store food or animal feed in a shipping container?
It can work, once the floor is dealt with. Container plywood floors are treated with insecticide and fungicide at the factory as a quarantine requirement, so for food, feed or animals the deck should be covered properly or replaced, and never dry-sanded. Valleyview can overlay or replace the deck in its yard before delivery. Keep bags on shelving or pallets and control condensation with vents or desiccant. Perishables need refrigeration: a reefer, or a converted container fitted with a refrigeration unit.
