Ferry-Served Containers for Bowen Island

(778) 694-4050

Serving Bowen Island and Snug Cove

Valleyview Containers delivers new and used shipping containers to Bowen Island, the hilly island municipality in Howe Sound reached by BC Ferries from Horseshoe Bay to Snug Cove. With supplies for a build coming over from the mainland, island builders and homeowners use a container to keep lumber, tools and fixtures locked and dry on site, and households add one for workshop space or storage on rural lots.

We send 20ft and 40ft containers to the island in standard and high-cube heights, including double-door and side-door units, each checked wind and watertight. The price covers the container and the whole trip, ferry included, and we confirm commercial-vehicle booking and size rules with BC Ferries before quoting. Bowen's roads are hilly and winding, so tell us about the route from Snug Cove and the space on your lot.

FAQ

Bowen Island shipping container FAQ

Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Bowen Island and across the Metro Vancouver.

Buying in Bowen Island

Does Valleyview Containers deliver to Bowen Island?

Yes. Valleyview’s delivery area covers all of British Columbia, including Bowen Island, and takes in homes, acreages, businesses, job sites and remote properties. Distance is priced into the delivery quote rather than limiting where containers go, so the questions that matter are whether the truck has a clear way in and room to set the container down.

How much does it cost to deliver a container to Bowen Island?

It’s quoted for your site by distance and access; Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone. The price depends on the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address on Bowen Island, the ferry crossing, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in. Delivery isn’t included in listed container prices, but the delivery quote itself is free.

How soon can I get a container delivered to Bowen Island?

It’s set when you order, not promised ahead. Timing depends on whether the unit you choose is already in Valleyview’s yard or has to be sourced, plus the distance to Bowen Island, access at your site, and the roads and weather. Tell Valleyview about any deadline when you ask for a quote, and the delivery window is confirmed with your order.

Do I have to come to Kamloops to buy a container for delivery to Bowen Island?

No. You can request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form and confirm the order when you accept it, all without visiting. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot on Bowen Island; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot. When it arrives, you or someone you designate inspects it and signs the delivery receipt, noting any damage at that time.

What container sizes can I buy on Bowen Island?

Any unit in Valleyview’s catalogue: the new 10ft; new and used 20ft containers, plus new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; and 40ft containers, new as high cubes (one with side doors) or used in standard or high cube height. The live inventory page shows units already in Valleyview’s yard, and other units can be sourced through partner depots on request and quoted delivered to Bowen Island. Availability, especially for the 10ft, is confirmed with your quote.

Can I see a container before it’s delivered to Bowen Island?

Yes, in a few ways. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit physically in the Kamloops yard, with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible. For a unit sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote. If you’re passing through Kamloops, call ahead to arrange a look in person, and inspect the container again when it arrives.

See the yard inventory
Do shipping containers cost more on Bowen Island?

They can, for two reasons. Part of a container’s own price depends on where the unit is sourced, which is one reason listed prices are ranges, and delivery to Bowen Island is quoted separately for your site. Condition and, for new units, colour move the figure too. Your quote confirms the exact numbers, in Canadian dollars plus tax.

How do I prepare my site for container delivery on Bowen Island?

Firm, level ground and room for the tilt-deck truck. The spot should be dry and load-bearing, such as compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete, with blocks or railway ties under the corners recommended. For a 20ft, the truck needs 72 feet of straight, clear length including the container’s final spot, 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet overhead; a 40ft needs more. Look up along the route in, too: hydro lines, branches and carport roofs all count against that overhead space.

Can you deliver to rural or hard-to-reach sites on Bowen Island?

Yes, and they’re quoted like any other delivery, by distance and by what the route and site need. Before booking, the route is planned the way it actually drives, including the approach, the turnaround and the set-down. Send GPS coordinates or a map pin for a site without a street address, describe gates, forks and creek crossings, and add photos of the access road and drop spot.

Should I get a 20ft or 40ft container for a property on Bowen Island?

A 20ft suits household, tool and job-site storage, and a 40ft suits larger loads if the site has room for the truck. A 20ft holds about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage, while a 40ft holds about 2,390 cubic feet, or about 2,690 as a high cube. A 10ft has half a 20ft’s footprint for tight lots, though supply is limited.

Does wet weather affect container delivery on Bowen Island?

It can, mostly through the ground. In Metro Vancouver, heavy rain can leave a driveway or drop spot too soft for a loaded truck, and weather can move a date; Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. A compacted gravel pad that drains well helps, and if the ground is soft or muddy close to delivery day, call before the truck comes.

How do I keep a shipping container dry inside on Bowen Island?

Control condensation, since humidity is the main concern in Metro Vancouver. Keep the built-in vents clear, use desiccants, and never put gear away wet. Set the container on blocks on a well-drained pad so the steel stays out of standing water, keep vegetation off the bottom rail, and wash the outside once a year to remove dirt and any salt.

Who do I ask about shipping container rules on Bowen Island?

The local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address, usually through its planning or building department; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. If the parcel is in the ALR, say so on the first call, since that changes which office you deal with. Valleyview isn’t the permit office and can’t confirm what applies to your lot, so give them your address and what the container is for, and ask before it’s delivered.

Read the permits guide
Can you build a container office or workshop for a site on Bowen Island?

Yes. Site offices, workshops, cold storage and other builds are made in Valleyview’s Kamloops yard and delivered to Bowen Island like a plain container, with delivery quoted by distance and site access. Every build starts from an inspected, wind and watertight container, and one itemized quote covers the container, each modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. Timing depends on the spec and is confirmed in your quote.

Custom container builds
Is lease-to-own available for containers delivered to Bowen Island?

Yes. Lease-to-own is offered on 20ft and 40ft containers delivered to Bowen Island, with the monthly payment, the term and delivery itemized in one up-front quote. The monthly cost depends on the container’s size, condition and your delivery location. Every payment builds toward ownership, and you can ask for a payout figure at any time. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers; lease-to-own is the monthly option.

How lease-to-own works
Do you deliver to other towns in Metro Vancouver besides Bowen Island?

Yes. Deliveries in Metro Vancouver also go to Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond and Coquitlam, along with the rest of the region. Every delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. Don’t see your community on the site? Call (778) 694-4050; Valleyview delivers to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.

How do I get a quote for container delivery to Bowen Island?

Call (778) 694-4050, email valleyviewcontainers@gmail.com, or use the quote form on the website. Say which size and condition you want, how many, and where it’s going; a postal code is enough to start, and the full address or directions are needed before you order. Photos of the access help. The quote is free, doesn’t commit you to buy, and gives one all-in price for the container and delivery.

Sizes & specs

Are new 40ft containers standard height or high cube?

In Valleyview’s catalogue, every new 40ft container is a high cube, 9ft 6in tall, including the 40ft high cube with side doors. A standard-height 40ft at 8ft 6in is listed as a used, cargo-worthy unit, and a used 40ft high cube is listed as well. All four share the same 40ft by 8ft footprint, so the choice comes down to headroom, condition and budget.

New & used containers

What does “one-trip” mean on a new container?

One-trip means the container was manufactured overseas, loaded once for a single voyage to North America, then sold. It is structurally new with minimal wear: straight walls, intact paint, tight door seals and a manufacturer’s plate only a year or two old. Valleyview’s new 20ft containers, including the double-door and side-door units, and its new 40ft high cubes are listed as one-trip.

Prices

Why don’t the units on your inventory page show a price?

Each yard unit is quoted as a delivered price for your address rather than shown with a sticker price. The inventory page lists only containers physically in Valleyview’s Kamloops yard, and choosing a listing starts a quote request for that unit. For a guide to what each size and condition costs, the products page shows listed price ranges in Canadian dollars plus tax and delivery.

Buying & paying

Do I need to pay a deposit when I order a container?

A deposit may be required to secure your order. The amount isn’t published on the website; it’s set out with your quote and invoice, along with the rest of the payment terms. Ask about the deposit when you receive your quote so you know what’s needed to confirm the order and how the remaining balance will be handled.

Delivery

Can I pick up a container from the yard myself?

Ask first, because customer pickup isn’t a published option. Valleyview delivers by tilt-deck truck, so call (778) 694-4050 to ask whether collecting the unit you want is possible and what loading it would involve. If delivery suits you better, the delivery quote is free and is priced to the site the container is actually going to.

Can I choose which way the container doors face when it’s delivered?

Usually, within what the truck can reach. Decide before delivery day which way you want the doors to face, include it with your site details when you ask for a quote, and confirm the exact placement and orientation with the driver on arrival. The truck backs in on a straight line and can’t turn while the container comes off, so the spot and the door direction have to suit that approach. If you’re unsure, send photos of the spot first.

Preparing your site

Does a high cube container need different site prep from a standard container?

No. A high cube has the same footprint and the same four corner bearing points as a standard container of the same length, and it needs the same firm, level, well-drained ground. It is slightly heavier empty, which changes nothing about how you prepare the pad. The difference is height, about a foot more, which matters for overhead clearance on delivery day rather than for the ground it sits on.

Owning a container

How should I lock a shipping container to deter theft?

Put a hardened puck lock inside a welded steel lock box, and avoid an open-shackle padlock on a bare hasp, which is easy to cut or pry. A thief goes after the padlock, not the steel walls. Placement helps too: point the doors at the house, shop or site trailer rather than a road or treeline, and back the container against a bank, fence or building to remove approach angles. For tools and machinery, add a crossbar on the locking bars.

Container security guide

Permits & bylaws

Do floodplain, waterfront or development permit areas add container rules?

They can. Lots near a river, lake or the coast may carry a floodplain elevation requirement or a setback from the top of the bank, and a development permit area can add a review of how a structure looks. Ask your local government whether any of these overlays apply to your property, and get the distances before you choose where the container sits.

Custom builds

Is the colour I pick in the Container Studio the colour I’ll get?

It is a preference, not a guarantee. The studio offers forest green, container white, graphite, sandstone and coastal blue, and Valleyview confirms colour availability and any paint cost in your quote. If you need a particular colour, custom paint in a factory RAL colour can be applied at the Kamloops yard before delivery, which is easier than painting on site. Logos, lettering and full-side graphics are quoted through the container branding service.

Business & lease-to-own

Is lease-to-own only for businesses?

No. Valleyview’s lease-to-own page names trades and contractors, farms and rural properties, new and growing businesses, and homeowners and acreage owners. It’s aimed at buyers who need the container on site now but would rather spread the cost into monthly payments; approval and terms are confirmed with your quote.

Refrigerated containers

Should I buy a 20ft reefer or have a standard container converted for cold storage?

Choose the factory reefer if you have 3-phase power, need frozen storage and a 20ft box is the right size. A converted standard 20ft or 40ft suits a site with only single-phase power, a buyer who wants a 40ft footprint or a roll-up door, or a cooler that never needs to go below freezing. Valleyview sells both, so tell the team what you’re storing and what power is on site, and it will recommend one and explain why.

Cold storage options

Uses

Which container suits business inventory, spare parts or seasonal stock?

A 40ft high cube for bulk volume, or a double-door or side-door unit for stock you reach into often. The high cube holds the most in Valleyview’s lineup, with headroom to stack pallets two high. A 20ft double-door opens at both ends, and side-door units open along the full length of one wall, so any item can be reached without moving the rest. A used unit suits a back lot; a new one suits a spot customers see. Multi-unit orders can match in size, condition and colour.
