Sea Cans for the Howe Sound Shore

(778) 694-4050

Serving Britannia Beach and Howe Sound's East Shore

Britannia Beach sits on the east shore of Howe Sound along Highway 99, south of Squamish, where the mountains drop almost straight to the water. The community grew up around the Britannia copper mine, closed since 1974 and now a museum. Homeowners short on garage space, contractors working along the corridor, and people with boats, bikes and outdoor gear use a container as a locked, dry shed close to home.

Choose a 20ft or 40ft container in regular or high-cube height, or a double-door or side-door unit that loads easily in a tight spot. Every unit passes a wind and watertight check, and one all-in price covers the container and delivery. Level ground is scarce along this coast, so send photos of your lot and the highway turn-in, and we will say if the truck can place it.

FAQ

Britannia Beach shipping container FAQ

Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Britannia Beach and across the Sea-to-Sky.

Buying in Britannia Beach

Does Valleyview Containers deliver to Britannia Beach?

Yes. Valleyview’s delivery area covers all of British Columbia, including Britannia Beach, and takes in homes, acreages, businesses, job sites and remote properties. Distance is priced into the delivery quote rather than limiting where containers go, so the questions that matter are whether the truck has a clear way in and room to set the container down.

What does it cost to have a container delivered to Britannia Beach?

Delivery to Britannia Beach isn’t part of the listed container price; it’s quoted for the actual site, and Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat rate. The quote reflects the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in Britannia Beach, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in. A level pad and room for the tilt-deck help keep it down, and the delivery quote is free.

How long does it take to get a container delivered to Britannia Beach?

It’s set when you order, not promised ahead. Timing depends on whether the unit you choose is already in Valleyview’s yard or has to be sourced, plus the distance to Britannia Beach, access at your site, and the roads and weather. Tell Valleyview about any deadline when you ask for a quote, and the delivery window is confirmed with your order.

Is there a Valleyview container yard in Britannia Beach?

No. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in Britannia Beach; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot and is quoted delivered to your address. You don’t need to visit to buy: request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form, confirm the order when you accept the quote, and inspect the container when it arrives.

What container sizes can I buy in Britannia Beach?

Any unit in Valleyview’s catalogue: the new 10ft; new and used 20ft containers, plus new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; and 40ft containers, new as high cubes (one with side doors) or used in standard or high cube height. The live inventory page shows units already in Valleyview’s yard, and other units can be sourced through partner depots on request and quoted delivered to Britannia Beach. Availability, especially for the 10ft, is confirmed with your quote.

How do I check a container’s condition before it’s delivered to Britannia Beach?

Ask for the details before you order. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit in the Kamloops yard, shown with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible, and you can ask about the floor or any other detail before you commit. For a container sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote, and inspect it again when it arrives.

See the yard inventory
Is the listed price what I’ll pay for a container in Britannia Beach?

The listed range is a guide to the container itself, and your quote confirms the exact figure. Where a container lands in its range depends on its condition, its colour if it’s new and where it’s sourced, which is why buyers in different towns can see different figures for the same container. Prices are in Canadian dollars plus tax, with delivery quoted separately.

What does my site need for container delivery in Britannia Beach?

Firm, level ground and room for the tilt-deck truck. The spot should be dry and load-bearing, such as compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete, with blocks or railway ties under the corners recommended. For a 20ft, the truck needs 72 feet of straight, clear length including the container’s final spot, 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet overhead; a 40ft needs more. Look up along the route in, too: hydro lines, branches and carport roofs all count against that overhead space.

Can you deliver to rural or hard-to-reach sites around Britannia Beach?

Yes. The service area takes in rural, remote and off-grid sites around Britannia Beach. Valleyview’s trucks run gravel roads, forest service roads and seasonal access, and each route is planned before the truck leaves: approach, turnaround and set-down, with a backup plan where a bridge weight rating is in question. Describe gates, creek crossings and the last stretch in, and send GPS coordinates or a map pin if the site has no street address.

What size container is right for a property in Britannia Beach?

Choose a 20ft if space or delivery access is tight, and a 40ft if you need volume. A 20ft gives about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage; a 40ft gives about 2,390, or about 2,690 as a high cube, but needs more room for the truck. Check the setbacks that apply to your lot before you choose, and mark the footprint with room for the doors to swing.

Does winter weather affect container delivery in Britannia Beach?

It can, through the roads and through the ground. In the Sea-to-Sky corridor, snow, ice or heavy rain can affect the roads and soften the ground, and weather can move a date; Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. Remote sites are planned around seasonal access windows. Clear snow from the route and drop spot, and call before delivery day if the ground is soft.

What should I do to keep a container in good shape in Britannia Beach?

Plan for both wet weather and cold. Keep the vents clear and use desiccants to control condensation, keep snow and wet leaves off the roof, and set the container on blocks on a well-drained pad so the steel stays out of standing water. Avoid heating it on and off, put graphite or a dry silicone lubricant in the lock before winter, and check the container is still level after the thaw.

Who do I ask about shipping container rules in Britannia Beach?

The local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address, usually through its planning or building department; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. If the parcel is in the ALR, say so on the first call, since that changes which office you deal with. Valleyview isn’t the permit office and can’t confirm what applies to your lot, so give them your address and what the container is for, and ask before it’s delivered.

Read the permits guide
Can I get a custom container build delivered to Britannia Beach?

Yes. Site offices, workshops, cold storage and other builds are made in Valleyview’s Kamloops yard and delivered to Britannia Beach like a plain container, with delivery quoted by distance and site access. Every build starts from an inspected, wind and watertight container, and one itemized quote covers the container, each modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. Timing depends on the spec and is confirmed in your quote.

Custom container builds
Can I rent a shipping container in Britannia Beach?

No. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers anywhere in BC. If you’d rather not pay the full price up front, lease-to-own spreads it into monthly payments on a 20ft or 40ft container, with the payment, term and delivery to Britannia Beach quoted together. Every payment builds toward ownership, you can pay out the balance early, and at the end of the term the container is yours rather than going back.

How lease-to-own works
Do you deliver to other towns in the Sea-to-Sky corridor besides Britannia Beach?

Yes. Deliveries in the Sea-to-Sky corridor also go to Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Furry Creek and Pemberton Meadows, along with the rest of the region. Every delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. Don’t see your community on the site? Call (778) 694-4050; Valleyview delivers to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.

How do I order a shipping container for delivery to Britannia Beach?

Start with a quote by phone at (778) 694-4050, by email, or through the website’s quote form. Include the container type, your address or postal code, your timeline and any access concerns, plus photos if the route in is tight. Quotes are free and don’t commit you to buy. When you accept, Valleyview confirms the order with an invoice or confirmation, and the delivery date is agreed at that point.

Sizes & specs

Will a car, quad or side-by-side fit in a shipping container?

It depends on the vehicle, so measure it first. Compare its length with the interior length, about 19ft 4in in a 20ft or 39ft 5in in a 40ft. Compare its height, including any trailer it sits on, plus six inches for the ramp angle, with the door opening: about 7ft 5in on a standard container or 8ft 5in on a high cube. Compare its width, mirrors included, with the interior width of about 7ft 8in, and ask Valleyview to confirm the door opening width.

New & used containers

How does Valleyview inspect a container before selling it?

Each container is checked against a set list before sale: the doors and seals, looking for daylight around the gaskets; the roof and seams for pinholes; the floor for soft, swollen or soaked boards; the corner castings for bends or impact damage; exterior rust; and the CSC plate and unit number. Valleyview then gives an accurate condition description, so ask for the notes on any unit you’re quoted. You can run the same checks yourself when you look at a unit.

Prices

How much does a shipping container cost in BC?

Listed prices for Valleyview’s non-refrigerated containers run from $2,500 to $10,000 in Canadian dollars, plus tax and delivery, depending on size, condition and door layout. A used 20ft is listed at $2,500–$3,000, a new one-trip 20ft at $3,700–$4,200 and a used 40ft at $3,300–$3,600. The highest-priced non-refrigerated unit is the new 40ft high cube side-door container, listed at $9,000–$10,000. The 20ft refrigerated container is listed separately at $27,000–$30,000. Your quote adds delivery to your site, so you see the all-in price before you commit.

Buying & paying

What payment methods do you accept for a shipping container?

Valleyview’s listed payment methods are cash, cheque and bank transfer. The payment terms for your order, including any deposit and when the balance is due, are set out on your invoice, so confirm how you’ll pay when you accept your quote rather than on delivery day.

Delivery

Do I need to be there when the container is delivered?

Yes. You or someone you designate must be on site during delivery to confirm placement, inspect the container and sign the delivery receipt. If you can’t be there yourself, send someone who knows exactly where the container should go and which way the doors should face, and who will check it over and note any damage on the receipt before signing.

Can you deliver several containers to the same site?

Yes. Several containers can go to one site, and multi-unit deliveries are coordinated. Plan the layout before delivery day: the truck needs a straight run to each unit’s spot and room to turn around, so set the order of drops so a container already set down doesn’t block the run to the next. Leave room in front of each set of doors. Send a sketch or photos of the layout with your quote request so the drops can be planned.

Bulk container orders

Preparing your site

Do I need a concrete slab or footings for a storage container?

Not necessarily. A storage container can sit on level, firm ground, and a compacted gravel pad or blocks under the corners is the standard approach. Concrete piers lift the container for airflow, and a concrete slab suits permanent installations and heavy use. Your municipality or regional district may have its own requirements for your use and location, so ask before you pour anything or book delivery.

Owning a container

Are my container and its contents covered by my insurance?

Ask your insurer or broker, because Valleyview cannot tell you what your policy covers. Ask whether the container and what you store in it are covered under your existing property or equipment policy. A stored item is not automatically insured just because it is locked. Have the unit number, photos of the container and contents, and your invoice ready when you call.

Permits & bylaws

Does the Agricultural Land Reserve affect putting a container on farmland?

It can, so check before you order. If your property is in the ALR, say so on your first call to the local government, because it can change which offices you deal with. Ask whether your intended use is allowed on the parcel and whether any approval beyond local zoning is needed. Plans to live or work in a container on ALR land call for an especially early conversation.

Custom builds

What insulation options are there for a shipping container?

Valleyview’s menu has four: rigid foam board, closed-cell spray foam, rock wool and fibreglass batts, plus closed-cell foam sprayed under the floor for cold and frost-heave sites. Rigid foam is marked as the default for offices and workshops, and closed-cell spray foam is the recommendation for space occupied year-round in the North, with the highest R-value on the menu and a full air seal. Rock wool is fire-resistant and dampens sound. Fibreglass batts are fitted only on request.

Business & lease-to-own

What happens to a container site office when the project ends?

It can move to your next site or stay on as a yard office or storage. Your electrician disconnects the power feed, and the office lifts back onto a tilt-deck truck by its corner castings with the framing, insulation and wiring left in place. Each move is quoted like a delivery, by distance and site access. Check the placement rules with the local government wherever it goes next.

Container site offices

Refrigerated containers

What happens to a reefer if the power goes out?

The refrigeration unit only holds your set temperature while it has power. The foam-filled walls help limit temperature swings, but how long the inside stays cold depends on the load, the set point and the weather, so plan for outages before you load product that can’t be allowed to warm up. Temperature monitoring can be added, quoted per design, so you know whether the box held overnight.

Uses

Can I run a pop-up shop, café or vendor bar out of a shipping container?

Yes. Valleyview’s pop-up package starts from a new one-trip 20ft, whose clean walls take paint well, and adds a personnel door, two sliding windows, steel stud framing, rigid foam and a basic electrical rough-in. Serving windows, counters, awnings, plumbing rough-in and branding are quoted per design, and espresso machines or commercial fridges need their own circuits. If you’ll sell food or drink, check with your regional health authority as well as your local government, which decides zoning and business licences, before ordering.
