Shipping Containers in Grindrod, BC
Containers for Grindrod's Dairy and Alfalfa Farms
Serving Grindrod and Its River-Bottom Farms
Grindrod sits on the west bank of the Shuswap River on Highway 97A north of Enderby, on fine silt soil that was once Carlin Orchard country. Today green pasture and alfalfa support mostly dairy farms, with corn, blueberries, vegetables and grapes on some fields, and feed milling and sawmilling have long been part of the local economy. Dairy operators and growers use containers for parts, bagged supplies, fencing and spare equipment.
Trucks come from our Kamloops yard to Grindrod's farms on Highway 97A. Choose from 20ft and 40ft sizes, standard and high cube heights, refrigerated units for produce, and models with end or side doors. Your price includes delivery to the farmyard, and the unit arrives inspected wind and watertight. Near the river, low or soft ground calls for a firm, level pad, and we confirm how the truck reaches it.

Grindrod shipping container FAQ
Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Grindrod and across the Okanagan & Shuswap.
Buying in Grindrod
Can I get a shipping container delivered to Grindrod?
Yes. Valleyview’s delivery area covers all of British Columbia, including Grindrod, and takes in homes, acreages, businesses, job sites and remote properties. Distance is priced into the delivery quote rather than limiting where containers go, so the questions that matter are whether the truck has a clear way in and room to set the container down.
What does it cost to have a container delivered to Grindrod?
Delivery to Grindrod isn’t part of the listed container price; it’s quoted for the actual site, and Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat rate. The quote reflects the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in Grindrod, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in. A level pad and room for the tilt-deck help keep it down, and the delivery quote is free.
How soon can I get a container delivered to Grindrod?
The delivery date is agreed when you order rather than promised in advance. It depends on where your container is coming from, the distance to Grindrod, your site, and road and weather conditions. With your quote, Valleyview confirms access, quotes the delivery and gives you a delivery window, so mention any deadline you’re working to when you ask.
Do I have to come to Kamloops to buy a container for delivery to Grindrod?
No. You can request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form and confirm the order when you accept it, all without visiting. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in Grindrod; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot. When it arrives, you or someone you designate inspects it and signs the delivery receipt, noting any damage at that time.
Which containers can I get delivered to Grindrod?
Any unit in Valleyview’s catalogue: the new 10ft; new and used 20ft containers, plus new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; and 40ft containers, new as high cubes (one with side doors) or used in standard or high cube height. The live inventory page shows units already in Valleyview’s yard, and other units can be sourced through partner depots on request and quoted delivered to Grindrod. Availability, especially for the 10ft, is confirmed with your quote.
Compare all containersCan I see a container before it’s delivered to Grindrod?
Yes, in a few ways. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit physically in the Kamloops yard, with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible. For a unit sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote. If you’re passing through Kamloops, call ahead to arrange a look in person, and inspect the container again when it arrives.
See the yard inventoryIs the listed price what I’ll pay for a container in Grindrod?
The listed range is a guide to the container itself, and your quote confirms the exact figure. Where a container lands in its range depends on its condition, its colour if it’s new and where it’s sourced, which is why buyers in different towns can see different figures for the same container. Prices are in Canadian dollars plus tax, with delivery quoted separately.
How do I prepare my site for container delivery in Grindrod?
A straight, clear approach for the truck and a firm, level spot for the container. For a 20ft, allow 72 feet of total clear length in a straight line, including where the container will sit, plus at least 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet of overhead clearance; a 40ft needs more, so ask. Compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete works, ideally with blocks under the corners. Before you book, walk the route in and measure the narrowest gate or gap.
Can you deliver to rural or hard-to-reach sites around Grindrod?
Yes, and they’re quoted like any other delivery, by distance and by what the route and site need. Before booking, the route is planned the way it actually drives, including the approach, the turnaround and the set-down. Send GPS coordinates or a map pin for a site without a street address, describe gates, forks and creek crossings, and add photos of the access road and drop spot.
Should I get a 20ft or 40ft container for a property in Grindrod?
Choose a 20ft if space or delivery access is tight, and a 40ft if you need volume. A 20ft gives about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage; a 40ft gives about 2,390, or about 2,690 as a high cube, but needs more room for the truck. Check the setbacks that apply to your lot before you choose, and mark the footprint with room for the doors to swing.
Do snow and frozen ground affect container delivery in Grindrod?
They can, in both directions. In the Okanagan and Shuswap, snow, ice and road conditions can move a date, and Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. Frozen ground can make some sites easier to reach, and remote sites are planned around seasonal access windows. Clear snow from the route and drop spot, and choose a spot that stays firm after the thaw.
How do I look after a shipping container through winter in Grindrod?
Plan for temperature swings and winter cold. Keep snow and wet leaves off the roof, keep the vents clear and use desiccants so condensation doesn’t drip on your things. Avoid heating it on and off, which is harder on a container than no heat at all. Before winter, put graphite or a dry silicone lubricant in the lock, and after the spring thaw check that the container is still level.
What are the rules for placing a shipping container in Grindrod?
It depends on your property and how you’ll use the container, so ask the local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address before ordering; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. The answer can change if you modify the container or live or work in it. Ask about the zone, setbacks, lot coverage, any permit or siting plan, and whether ALR, a floodplain or a covenant applies, then get the answer in writing.
Read the permits guideCan I get a custom container build delivered to Grindrod?
Yes. Custom builds are done in Valleyview’s own yard in Kamloops, where openings are cut and framing, insulation, electrical rough-in and any paint are added, then the finished container is delivered to Grindrod, usually by tilt-deck. You approve one itemized quote covering the container, every modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. You can start from a sketch, photos or a design made in the Container Studio.
Custom container buildsCan I pay monthly for a shipping container in Grindrod?
Yes, through lease-to-own, the only financing Valleyview offers. You get one up-front quote for a 20ft or 40ft container that itemizes the monthly payment, the term and delivery to Grindrod. Every payment builds toward ownership, you can pay out the balance early whenever you like, and at the end of the term the container is yours. The monthly cost depends on the container’s size, condition and your delivery location. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers, so lease-to-own is the monthly option.
How lease-to-own worksDo you deliver to other towns in the Okanagan and Shuswap besides Grindrod?
Yes. Deliveries in the Okanagan and Shuswap also go to Kelowna, West Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon and Summerland, along with the rest of the region. Every delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. Don’t see your community on the site? Call (778) 694-4050; Valleyview delivers to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.
How do I get a quote for container delivery to Grindrod?
Call (778) 694-4050, email valleyviewcontainers@gmail.com, or use the quote form on the website. Say which size and condition you want, how many, and where it’s going; a postal code is enough to start, and the full address or directions are needed before you order. Photos of the access help. The quote is free, doesn’t commit you to buy, and gives one all-in price for the container and delivery.
Sizes & specs
Are new 40ft containers standard height or high cube?
In Valleyview’s catalogue, every new 40ft container is a high cube, 9ft 6in tall, including the 40ft high cube with side doors. A standard-height 40ft at 8ft 6in is listed as a used, cargo-worthy unit, and a used 40ft high cube is listed as well. All four share the same 40ft by 8ft footprint, so the choice comes down to headroom, condition and budget.
New & used containers
Does a used container come with a CSC plate or certificate?
Don’t assume it does; ask about the specific unit. Cargo-rated containers carry a CSC plate at the door end and a unique unit number, and a container without a plate can’t be shipped internationally. For a container that will stay on your property for storage, a missing plate doesn’t stop it keeping contents dry, but it is worth knowing before you buy. Confirm what the unit has with your quote.
Prices
How much more does a new 20ft container cost than a used one?
A new one-trip 20ft is listed at $3,700–$4,200 and a used cargo-worthy 20ft at $2,500–$3,000, a difference of $1,200 at the low end of each range, before tax and delivery. Both hold about 1,170 cubic feet. The extra buys factory paint in a choice of RAL colours, minimal wear and a manufacturer’s warranty. The used unit shows surface rust and dents and is sold without a warranty except as required by law, but it’s inspected and wind and watertight before it’s sold.
Container condition gradesBuying & paying
Can I buy a shipping container online?
Not through an online checkout. The website lets you request a quote, browse the yard inventory and design a custom build in the Container Studio, but there is no payment step on the site. Valleyview sends you a quote for the container and delivery; when you accept it, Valleyview confirms the order with an invoice or confirmation, and you pay under the terms set out there.
Delivery
What happens on delivery day?
The driver calls when they are on the way. When the truck arrives, you confirm the exact spot and which way the doors face, then the deck tilts and the container slides off the back onto your prepared site. Give the operator room and stay beside or behind the moving container, never in front of it. Once it’s down, inspect it and sign the delivery receipt.
Do you deliver to Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and the Gulf Islands?
Yes. Deliveries to Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and the Gulf Islands are ferry-served, and the ferry is part of the delivery quote, so you get one all-in price for the container and its delivery before you commit. The site still needs a straight, clear approach for the truck, enough overhead space and firm, level ground where the container will sit.
Preparing your site
Can a shipping container sit on an asphalt driveway?
Yes, asphalt is one of the firm surfaces Valleyview’s delivery guide lists, along with compacted gravel and concrete. The surface still needs to be level and shed water away from the container, and the truck needs a straight run to it that includes the container’s final position. If the driveway sits near a property line or road, ask your municipality or regional district what setbacks apply.
Owning a container
How long does a shipping container last?
There is no fixed number of years. How long a container lasts depends on its foundation and drainage, how much weather and salt air it sees, whether it was new or used when you bought it, and how well it is maintained. A solid, level, well-drained base is the biggest single factor. After that, keep the roof clear, treat rust as it appears and look after the door seals.
Permits & bylaws
Does Valleyview apply for the permit for me?
No. You file the permit application with your local government, and approval is its decision. On custom builds such as offices, bunkies, garden suites and homes, Valleyview coordinates the engineered drawings where they are required and answers the building department’s questions about them. For a home or garden suite, the permit is issued in your name, on your land, and no steel is cut until it is issued.
Custom builds
How do I save a video of my Container Studio design?
Use the tour on the review step. It is a 30-second film of the build you configured, in five chapters, and once your contact details are entered you can save it as a 1920×1080 MP4 or WebM file, depending on your browser. Keep the tab visible while it records. If your browser can’t record video, the studio says export is unavailable and the tour still plays on screen.
Business & lease-to-own
Is lease-to-own only for businesses?
No. Valleyview’s lease-to-own page names trades and contractors, farms and rural properties, new and growing businesses, and homeowners and acreage owners. It’s aimed at buyers who need the container on site now but would rather spread the cost into monthly payments; approval and terms are confirmed with your quote.
Refrigerated containers
Can I get a refrigerated container on lease-to-own?
It may be possible; whether a particular reefer or cold storage build qualifies is confirmed in your quote. Lease-to-own, with monthly payments that build toward ownership, is Valleyview’s only financing option, and you can pay out the balance early whenever you like. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers, refrigerated or otherwise, so there is no short-term reefer rental, and the container is yours once it is paid off.
How lease-to-own worksUses
Can I run a pop-up shop, café or vendor bar out of a shipping container?
Yes. Valleyview’s pop-up package starts from a new one-trip 20ft, whose clean walls take paint well, and adds a personnel door, two sliding windows, steel stud framing, rigid foam and a basic electrical rough-in. Serving windows, counters, awnings, plumbing rough-in and branding are quoted per design, and espresso machines or commercial fridges need their own circuits. If you’ll sell food or drink, check with your regional health authority as well as your local government, which decides zoning and business licences, before ordering.
