Containers for Mabel Lake Cabins and Lots

(778) 694-4050

Serving the Mabel Lake Shore

Mabel Lake is a long, narrow lake northeast of Vernon. The Shuswap River flows in at the south end from Sugar Lake and leaves to the west toward Mara Lake, past Skookumchuck Rapids Provincial Park, and Mabel Lake Provincial Park sits on the southeast shore. Cabin and recreational lot owners buy containers to lock up boat gear, dock sections, tools, bikes and building materials between visits, when a property can sit empty for weeks.

Two roads lead in: the Lumby road to the provincial park, and the main road from Enderby. A 20ft suits a smaller cabin lot, a 40ft or high cube holds more, and side-door and double-door versions are offered. Units leave Kamloops inspected wind and watertight, with the trip to the lake in the quote. Lake lots can involve gravel, grades and tight turns; photos of the approach help.

FAQ

Mabel Lake shipping container FAQ

Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Mabel Lake and across the Okanagan & Shuswap.

Buying in Mabel Lake

Can I get a shipping container delivered to Mabel Lake?

Yes. Valleyview delivers new and used containers to homes, businesses and job sites in Mabel Lake and across the Okanagan and Shuswap, most of them set down by a tilt-deck truck that slides the container onto your prepared site. Distance changes the delivery quote rather than whether Mabel Lake is served; what decides whether a particular site works is the route in and the access at the drop spot.

Do listed container prices include delivery to Mabel Lake?

No. Listed container prices are in Canadian dollars plus tax and delivery, and delivery to Mabel Lake is quoted separately. Each site is quoted on its own: the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in Mabel Lake, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in all count. Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone; what’s free is the delivery quote itself.

How long does it take to get a container delivered to Mabel Lake?

It’s set when you order, not promised ahead. Timing depends on whether the unit you choose is already in Valleyview’s yard or has to be sourced, plus the distance to Mabel Lake, access at your site, and the roads and weather. Tell Valleyview about any deadline when you ask for a quote, and the delivery window is confirmed with your order.

Do I have to come to Kamloops to buy a container for delivery to Mabel Lake?

No. You can request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form and confirm the order when you accept it, all without visiting. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in Mabel Lake; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot. When it arrives, you or someone you designate inspects it and signs the delivery receipt, noting any damage at that time.

Which containers can I get delivered to Mabel Lake?

Any unit in Valleyview’s catalogue: the new 10ft; new and used 20ft containers, plus new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; and 40ft containers, new as high cubes (one with side doors) or used in standard or high cube height. The live inventory page shows units already in Valleyview’s yard, and other units can be sourced through partner depots on request and quoted delivered to Mabel Lake. Availability, especially for the 10ft, is confirmed with your quote.

Can I see a container before it’s delivered to Mabel Lake?

Yes, in a few ways. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit physically in the Kamloops yard, with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible. For a unit sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote. If you’re passing through Kamloops, call ahead to arrange a look in person, and inspect the container again when it arrives.

See the yard inventory
Do shipping containers cost more in Mabel Lake?

They can, for two reasons. Part of a container’s own price depends on where the unit is sourced, which is one reason listed prices are ranges, and delivery to Mabel Lake is quoted separately for your site. Condition and, for new units, colour move the figure too. Your quote confirms the exact numbers, in Canadian dollars plus tax.

What does my site need for container delivery in Mabel Lake?

A straight, clear approach for the truck and a firm, level spot for the container. For a 20ft, allow 72 feet of total clear length in a straight line, including where the container will sit, plus at least 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet of overhead clearance; a 40ft needs more, so ask. Compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete works, ideally with blocks under the corners. Before you book, walk the route in and measure the narrowest gate or gap.

Can you deliver to rural or hard-to-reach sites around Mabel Lake?

Yes. The service area takes in rural, remote and off-grid sites around Mabel Lake. Valleyview’s trucks run gravel roads, forest service roads and seasonal access, and each route is planned before the truck leaves: approach, turnaround and set-down, with a backup plan where a bridge weight rating is in question. Describe gates, creek crossings and the last stretch in, and send GPS coordinates or a map pin if the site has no street address.

What size container is right for a property in Mabel Lake?

A 20ft suits household, tool and job-site storage, and a 40ft suits larger loads if the site has room for the truck. A 20ft holds about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage, while a 40ft holds about 2,390 cubic feet, or about 2,690 as a high cube. A 10ft has half a 20ft’s footprint for tight lots, though supply is limited.

Is winter container delivery possible in Mabel Lake?

It depends on the roads in and the state of your site on the day. In the Okanagan and Shuswap, snow, ice and road conditions can move a date, and Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. Frozen ground can make some sites easier to reach, and remote sites are planned around seasonal access windows. Clear snow from the route and drop spot, and choose a spot that stays firm after the thaw.

What should I do to keep a container in good shape in Mabel Lake?

Plan for temperature swings and winter cold. Keep snow and wet leaves off the roof, keep the vents clear and use desiccants so condensation doesn’t drip on your things. Avoid heating it on and off, which is harder on a container than no heat at all. Before winter, put graphite or a dry silicone lubricant in the lock, and after the spring thaw check that the container is still level.

What are the rules for placing a shipping container in Mabel Lake?

It depends on your property and how you’ll use the container, so ask the local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address before ordering; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. The answer can change if you modify the container or live or work in it. Ask about the zone, setbacks, lot coverage, any permit or siting plan, and whether ALR, a floodplain or a covenant applies, then get the answer in writing.

Read the permits guide
Can I get a custom container build delivered to Mabel Lake?

Yes. Site offices, workshops, cold storage and other builds are made in Valleyview’s Kamloops yard and delivered to Mabel Lake like a plain container, with delivery quoted by distance and site access. Every build starts from an inspected, wind and watertight container, and one itemized quote covers the container, each modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. Timing depends on the spec and is confirmed in your quote.

Custom container builds
Is lease-to-own available for containers delivered to Mabel Lake?

Yes. Lease-to-own is offered on 20ft and 40ft containers delivered to Mabel Lake, with the monthly payment, the term and delivery itemized in one up-front quote. The monthly cost depends on the container’s size, condition and your delivery location. Every payment builds toward ownership, and you can ask for a payout figure at any time. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers; lease-to-own is the monthly option.

How lease-to-own works
Do you deliver to other towns in the Okanagan and Shuswap besides Mabel Lake?

Yes. Deliveries in the Okanagan and Shuswap also go to Kelowna, West Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon and Summerland, along with the rest of the region. Every delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. Don’t see your community on the site? Call (778) 694-4050; Valleyview delivers to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.

How do I get a quote for container delivery to Mabel Lake?

Call (778) 694-4050, email valleyviewcontainers@gmail.com, or use the quote form on the website. Say which size and condition you want, how many, and where it’s going; a postal code is enough to start, and the full address or directions are needed before you order. Photos of the access help. The quote is free, doesn’t commit you to buy, and gives one all-in price for the container and delivery.

Sizes & specs

What are the dimensions of a 20ft shipping container?

A 20ft container is 20ft long, 8ft wide and 8ft 6in tall outside. Inside, a standard 20ft measures about 19ft 4in long, 7ft 8in wide and 7ft 10in high, for roughly 1,170 cubic feet, and the door opening is about five inches lower than the ceiling. On the ground it takes up roughly the space of a single-car garage. Double-door, side-door and refrigerated 20ft units share the same outside size, though the refrigerated unit has less room inside because of its insulation.

New & used containers

What should the floor of a used container look like?

Solid underfoot, with no soft, swollen, sagging or rotted boards. Light surface staining is normal on a used deck; walk the full length, bounce on it, and look for dark rings that point to a past leak. Note any chemical or pesticide smell, which can rule a unit out for food, residential or sensitive storage. Valleyview will describe the floor of a container on its list before you commit.

Prices

What does a new 20ft shipping container cost?

A new one-trip 20ft container is listed at $3,700–$4,200 plus tax and delivery. One-trip means it was loaded once for a single voyage, so it is structurally new, with factory paint and minimal wear. New 20ft units come in a range of factory RAL colours, and pricing varies slightly by colour, so ask for the current colours when you request a quote.

Buying & paying

Can I buy a shipping container online?

Not through an online checkout. The website lets you request a quote, browse the yard inventory and design a custom build in the Container Studio, but there is no payment step on the site. Valleyview sends you a quote for the container and delivery; when you accept it, Valleyview confirms the order with an invoice or confirmation, and you pay under the terms set out there.

Delivery

Can you deliver several containers to the same site?

Yes. Several containers can go to one site, and multi-unit deliveries are coordinated. Plan the layout before delivery day: the truck needs a straight run to each unit’s spot and room to turn around, so set the order of drops so a container already set down doesn’t block the run to the next. Leave room in front of each set of doors. Send a sketch or photos of the layout with your quote request so the drops can be planned.

Bulk container orders
How is a shipping container delivered?

By tilt-deck. Most deliveries use a tilt-deck truck or trailer whose deck tilts down hydraulically so the container slides off the back onto your prepared site. A 20ft container is delivered on a pickup with a 22-foot deckover tilt trailer. The truck can’t turn while the container is coming off, so it needs a straight, clear path and firm, level ground where the container will sit.

Preparing your site

Does a shipping container need to be anchored or tied down?

That depends on the use and the location, so ask your municipality or regional district what applies to your property before delivery. A storage container is normally set on a level pad or on blocks under its corners. Once a container is treated as a building, anchoring designed for wind and seismic loads can be part of the stamped drawings, and for a home the engineer details how the corner castings tie down.

Owning a container

How do I protect the plywood floor inside my container?

Keep water off it. Container floors fail when water gets in and stays, so keep the container level on a well-drained pad up on blocks, keep the door gaskets sealing, and use vents or desiccant. For a cleaner floor, sweep, degrease, let it dry and apply two coats of floor enamel, garage-floor paint or epoxy while the container is empty. Valleyview also does floor sealing, overlays and deck replacement as modifications in its yard before delivery, so decide on the floor before you buy.

Container flooring guide

Permits & bylaws

Do floodplain, waterfront or development permit areas add container rules?

They can. Lots near a river, lake or the coast may carry a floodplain elevation requirement or a setback from the top of the bank, and a development permit area can add a review of how a structure looks. Ask your local government whether any of these overlays apply to your property, and get the distances before you choose where the container sits.

Custom builds

What information do you need to quote a custom container?

Start with how you will use the space, then the size you have in mind, the doors, windows, insulation and power you need, where that power will come from, the delivery address and what site access is like. For equipment enclosures, include the equipment’s spec sheet. For anything people will occupy, give the civic address early, because rules differ between municipalities and regional districts.

Business & lease-to-own

How is a fleet or bulk container order priced?

Per unit, with pricing that improves as the quantity goes up and no fixed minimum to qualify. Tell Valleyview how many containers you need, the sizes and condition, and where each one is going, and the quote shows the per-unit price for that order size, with delivery itemized line by line. Branding, paint or modifications for the whole order can be quoted on the same document.

Bulk container sales

Refrigerated containers

Is your refrigerated container new or used?

The catalogue lists the reefer in its own Refrigerated category rather than as new or used, so ask about the age and condition of the specific container and its refrigeration unit when you get a quote. Before delivery, a stock reefer is checked, run and set to your temperature in Valleyview’s yard. As with any container, inspect it on delivery and note any damage on the delivery receipt.

Uses

Can I run a pop-up shop, café or vendor bar out of a shipping container?

Yes. Valleyview’s pop-up package starts from a new one-trip 20ft, whose clean walls take paint well, and adds a personnel door, two sliding windows, steel stud framing, rigid foam and a basic electrical rough-in. Serving windows, counters, awnings, plumbing rough-in and branding are quoted per design, and espresso machines or commercial fridges need their own circuits. If you’ll sell food or drink, check with your regional health authority as well as your local government, which decides zoning and business licences, before ordering.
