Shipping Containers in Comox, BC
Containers for Comox Harbour & the Peninsula
Serving Comox and the Comox Peninsula
Comox sits on the southern coast of the Comox Peninsula, on a harbour sheltered by Goose Spit, with the Comox Glacier in view across the valley. Valleyview Containers delivers new and used shipping containers here for boat and marine gear, tools and equipment on peninsula acreages, and household goods for families settling in or moving on with postings at CFB Comox.
A 20ft container can hold furniture and boxes in a driveway between postings, and a 40ft high-cube gives a peninsula acreage room for mowers, trailers and marine gear. Double-door and side-door units keep that gear within reach. Each leaves our Kamloops yard inspected wind and watertight, at one price for the container and delivery, ferry included. On a lot sloping toward the harbour, show us where the truck can stop.

Comox shipping container FAQ
Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Comox and across the Vancouver Island & Gulf Islands.
Buying in Comox
Does Valleyview Containers deliver to Comox?
Yes. Valleyview’s delivery area covers all of British Columbia, including Comox, and takes in homes, acreages, businesses, job sites and remote properties. Distance is priced into the delivery quote rather than limiting where containers go, so the questions that matter are whether the truck has a clear way in and room to set the container down.
How much does it cost to deliver a container to Comox?
It’s quoted for your site by distance and access; Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone. The price depends on the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in Comox, the ferry crossing, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in. Delivery isn’t included in listed container prices, but the delivery quote itself is free.
How long does it take to get a container delivered to Comox?
The delivery date is agreed when you order rather than promised in advance. It depends on where your container is coming from, the distance to Comox, your site, and road and weather conditions. With your quote, Valleyview confirms access, quotes the delivery and gives you a delivery window, so mention any deadline you’re working to when you ask.
Is there a Valleyview container yard in Comox?
No. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in Comox; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot and is quoted delivered to your address. You don’t need to visit to buy: request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form, confirm the order when you accept the quote, and inspect the container when it arrives.
What container sizes can I buy in Comox?
All three sizes, 10ft, 20ft and 40ft, can be delivered to Comox. The catalogue has the new 10ft; new and used 20ft units, new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; new 40ft high cubes; and used 40ft containers in standard or high cube height. What’s in Valleyview’s yard now is on the live inventory page, other units can be sourced through partner depots, and availability is confirmed with your quote.
Compare all containersHow do I check a container’s condition before it’s delivered to Comox?
Ask for the details before you order. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit in the Kamloops yard, shown with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible, and you can ask about the floor or any other detail before you commit. For a container sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote, and inspect it again when it arrives.
See the yard inventoryDo shipping containers cost more in Comox?
They can, for two reasons. Part of a container’s own price depends on where the unit is sourced, which is one reason listed prices are ranges, and delivery to Comox is quoted separately for your site. Condition and, for new units, colour move the figure too. Your quote confirms the exact numbers, in Canadian dollars plus tax.
How do I prepare my site for container delivery in Comox?
A straight, clear approach for the truck and a firm, level spot for the container. For a 20ft, allow 72 feet of total clear length in a straight line, including where the container will sit, plus at least 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet of overhead clearance; a 40ft needs more, so ask. Compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete works, ideally with blocks under the corners. Before you book, walk the route in and measure the narrowest gate or gap.
Do you deliver to acreages and off-grid properties near Comox?
Yes, and they’re quoted like any other delivery, by distance and by what the route and site need. Before booking, the route is planned the way it actually drives, including the approach, the turnaround and the set-down. Send GPS coordinates or a map pin for a site without a street address, describe gates, forks and creek crossings, and add photos of the access road and drop spot.
What size container is right for a property in Comox?
A 20ft suits household, tool and job-site storage, and a 40ft suits larger loads if the site has room for the truck. A 20ft holds about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage, while a 40ft holds about 2,390 cubic feet, or about 2,690 as a high cube. A 10ft has half a 20ft’s footprint for tight lots, though supply is limited.
Is winter container delivery possible in Comox?
It depends on the roads in and the state of your site on the day. On Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, heavy rain can leave a driveway or drop spot too soft for a loaded truck, and weather can move a date; Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. A compacted gravel pad that drains well helps, and if the ground is soft or muddy close to delivery day, call before the truck comes.
How do I keep a shipping container dry inside in Comox?
Control condensation, since humidity is the main concern on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. Keep the built-in vents clear, use desiccants, and never put gear away wet. Set the container on blocks on a well-drained pad so the steel stays out of standing water, keep vegetation off the bottom rail, and wash the outside once a year to remove dirt and any salt.
Do I need a permit for a shipping container in Comox?
It depends on your property and how you’ll use the container, so ask the local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address before ordering; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. The answer can change if you modify the container or live or work in it. Ask about the zone, setbacks, lot coverage, any permit or siting plan, and whether ALR, a floodplain or a covenant applies, then get the answer in writing.
Read the permits guideCan you build a container office or workshop for a site in Comox?
Yes. Custom builds are done in Valleyview’s own yard in Kamloops, where openings are cut and framing, insulation, electrical rough-in and any paint are added, then the finished container is delivered to Comox, usually by tilt-deck. You approve one itemized quote covering the container, every modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. You can start from a sketch, photos or a design made in the Container Studio.
Custom container buildsCan I rent a shipping container in Comox?
No. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers anywhere in BC. If you’d rather not pay the full price up front, lease-to-own spreads it into monthly payments on a 20ft or 40ft container, with the payment, term and delivery to Comox quoted together. Every payment builds toward ownership, you can pay out the balance early, and at the end of the term the container is yours rather than going back.
How lease-to-own worksWhere else on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands do you deliver besides Comox?
All of Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, including Victoria, Saanich, Langford, Sidney and Duncan. Each delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. If your community isn’t listed on the site, call (778) 694-4050: deliveries also go to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.
How do I get a quote for container delivery to Comox?
Call (778) 694-4050, email valleyviewcontainers@gmail.com, or use the quote form on the website. Say which size and condition you want, how many, and where it’s going; a postal code is enough to start, and the full address or directions are needed before you order. Photos of the access help. The quote is free, doesn’t commit you to buy, and gives one all-in price for the container and delivery.
Sizes & specs
What size container works for tractors and farm equipment?
For tractors and other tall machinery, look at a 40ft high cube first, because the door opening decides what drives in: about 8ft 5in on a high cube against about 7ft 5in on a standard container. Measure the tallest point and add six inches, and check the width, including mirrors and any loader, against the interior width of about 7ft 8in. For feed, tools and parts, the catalogue lists used 20ft and 40ft standard containers for farm and acreage storage.
New & used containers
Which condition grades does Valleyview sell?
The catalogue has two: new, with the 20ft and 40ft units sold as one-trip, and used cargo-worthy, plus a refrigerated container. Units in the yard inventory also show the condition recorded for that specific unit. Container grading isn’t governed by one universal standard, so if a quote or listing uses a term you don’t recognize, ask Valleyview what it means for that unit before you buy.
Prices
What costs aren’t covered by a Valleyview container quote?
Anything done by you, your trades or your local government. Preparing a level, firm site with clear access for the truck is the buyer’s part, so budget for any gravel pad, blocks or clearing. If a permit is required, its fees are set locally and are not part of Valleyview’s quote, nor are energy advisor, septic design or connection fees on a home or suite. Your electrician’s and plumber’s final connections are separate, and insurance is between you and your broker.
Buying & paying
Are GST and PST included in your container prices?
No. Listed container prices are in Canadian dollars plus tax and delivery, and applicable GST and PST are added to your quote and invoice. Ask for the total including tax when you get your quote so you know the full amount before you pay. How a container purchase is treated for your business or personal taxes is a question for your accountant.
Delivery
What should I do before the delivery truck arrives?
Walk the route from the road to the drop spot and clear it. Confirm gate width and overhead space, move parked vehicles, mark utility lines, and clear the drop area of debris, vehicles and other obstructions. Make sure the spot itself is firm, dry and level. On the day, keep children, pets and everyone else back while the operator works.
Read the delivery guideCan I choose which way the container doors face when it’s delivered?
Usually, within what the truck can reach. Decide before delivery day which way you want the doors to face, include it with your site details when you ask for a quote, and confirm the exact placement and orientation with the driver on arrival. The truck backs in on a straight line and can’t turn while the container comes off, so the spot and the door direction have to suit that approach. If you’re unsure, send photos of the spot first.
Preparing your site
What should I put under the corners of a shipping container?
Pressure-treated wood blocks, concrete blocks or railway ties, under each of the four corner castings. Those corners are where the container bears its weight, so the supports need to sit on firm ground and be level with each other. Raising the container this way keeps the frame out of the mud, lets air move underneath and reduces the risk of rust. Check the blocks once a year for cracking or shifting.
Container flooring guideOwning a container
What maintenance does a shipping container need each year?
Walk around it once a year looking for deep scratches, dents and bubbling paint, especially on the roof and corners, and treat any surface rust. Wash the outside, grease the hinge pins and locking bars, and check the door gaskets for cracks or tears. Confirm it is still level after the spring thaw, check the blocks for cracking or shifting, keep the vents clear and make sure water drains away from the base.
Container maintenance guidePermits & bylaws
If I move my container to another property, do the approvals move with it?
Assume they do not. Approvals belong to the property and the use, so the new site’s local government decides again. For a storage container, check the zone and setbacks at the new lot. An office, bunkie or workshop may need new approvals before it is used there, and a garden suite or home moved to another lot needs its own permit and engineering review. Make that call before you book the move.
Custom builds
What happens when I add a “Quote required” option in the Container Studio?
It is listed on your build but kept out of the priced subtotal, and the running total switches to “By quote”. Quote-required options include washrooms, tanks, a water heater, wall and ceiling linings, vinyl flooring, a mini-split and baseboard heat. If your contact details are on file, the design is sent to Valleyview once per visit so the team can price those items in your written quote. Tax, delivery, paint, final finishes and site work are never in the studio figure.
Business & lease-to-own
What happens to a container site office when the project ends?
It can move to your next site or stay on as a yard office or storage. Your electrician disconnects the power feed, and the office lifts back onto a tilt-deck truck by its corner castings with the framing, insulation and wiring left in place. Each move is quoted like a delivery, by distance and site access. Check the placement rules with the local government wherever it goes next.
Container site officesRefrigerated containers
What costs should I budget for besides the refrigerated container itself?
Plan for delivery, priced by distance and site access; any extras such as shelving, racking, a secondary man door or temperature monitoring, each quoted per design; and your own electrician’s work to install the outlet and make the final connection, plus any change your electrical service needs to provide 3-phase power, or a generator on an off-grid site. Tax is added on top. Valleyview quotes the container, extras and delivery together before you commit.
Uses
Can I run a pop-up shop, café or vendor bar out of a shipping container?
Yes. Valleyview’s pop-up package starts from a new one-trip 20ft, whose clean walls take paint well, and adds a personnel door, two sliding windows, steel stud framing, rigid foam and a basic electrical rough-in. Serving windows, counters, awnings, plumbing rough-in and branding are quoted per design, and espresso machines or commercial fridges need their own circuits. If you’ll sell food or drink, check with your regional health authority as well as your local government, which decides zoning and business licences, before ordering.
