Farm Containers for Deroche & Nicomen Island

(778) 694-4050

Serving Deroche and Nicomen Island Along Nicomen Slough

Deroche sits on Highway 7 at the foot of Nicomen Mountain, between Mission and Agassiz, and takes in the northeast end of Nicomen Island across Nicomen Slough. The community is named for Joseph Deroche, an early freighter who found the island good for wintering his cattle and went on to farm there. Island farms and slough-side acreages use containers as lockable storage for fencing supplies, livestock gear and spare parts.

Choose 20ft or 40ft in standard or high cube. Double-door models open at both ends and side-door models open along one side, handy when equipment moves in and out. Every unit passes our wind and watertight inspection, and the all-in quote covers delivery to the farm. Island farms are reached across Nicomen Slough, so we confirm the route, farm lane and turning room before we book. Lease-to-own is also available.

FAQ

Deroche shipping container FAQ

Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Deroche and across the Fraser Valley.

Buying in Deroche

Can I get a shipping container delivered to Deroche?

Yes. Valleyview’s delivery area covers all of British Columbia, including Deroche, and takes in homes, acreages, businesses, job sites and remote properties. Distance is priced into the delivery quote rather than limiting where containers go, so the questions that matter are whether the truck has a clear way in and room to set the container down.

Do listed container prices include delivery to Deroche?

No. Listed container prices are in Canadian dollars plus tax and delivery, and delivery to Deroche is quoted separately. Each site is quoted on its own: the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in Deroche, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in all count. Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone; what’s free is the delivery quote itself.

How soon can I get a container delivered to Deroche?

The delivery date is agreed when you order rather than promised in advance. It depends on where your container is coming from, the distance to Deroche, your site, and road and weather conditions. With your quote, Valleyview confirms access, quotes the delivery and gives you a delivery window, so mention any deadline you’re working to when you ask.

Is there a Valleyview container yard in Deroche?

No. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in Deroche; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot and is quoted delivered to your address. You don’t need to visit to buy: request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form, confirm the order when you accept the quote, and inspect the container when it arrives.

What container sizes can I buy in Deroche?

All three sizes, 10ft, 20ft and 40ft, can be delivered to Deroche. The catalogue has the new 10ft; new and used 20ft units, new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; new 40ft high cubes; and used 40ft containers in standard or high cube height. What’s in Valleyview’s yard now is on the live inventory page, other units can be sourced through partner depots, and availability is confirmed with your quote.

How do I check a container’s condition before it’s delivered to Deroche?

Ask for the details before you order. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit in the Kamloops yard, shown with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible, and you can ask about the floor or any other detail before you commit. For a container sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote, and inspect it again when it arrives.

See the yard inventory
Do shipping containers cost more in Deroche?

They can, for two reasons. Part of a container’s own price depends on where the unit is sourced, which is one reason listed prices are ranges, and delivery to Deroche is quoted separately for your site. Condition and, for new units, colour move the figure too. Your quote confirms the exact numbers, in Canadian dollars plus tax.

What does my site need for container delivery in Deroche?

A straight, clear approach for the truck and a firm, level spot for the container. For a 20ft, allow 72 feet of total clear length in a straight line, including where the container will sit, plus at least 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet of overhead clearance; a 40ft needs more, so ask. Compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete works, ideally with blocks under the corners. Before you book, walk the route in and measure the narrowest gate or gap.

Can you deliver to rural or hard-to-reach sites around Deroche?

Yes. The service area takes in rural, remote and off-grid sites around Deroche. Valleyview’s trucks run gravel roads, forest service roads and seasonal access, and each route is planned before the truck leaves: approach, turnaround and set-down, with a backup plan where a bridge weight rating is in question. Describe gates, creek crossings and the last stretch in, and send GPS coordinates or a map pin if the site has no street address.

What size container is right for a property in Deroche?

A 20ft suits household, tool and job-site storage, and a 40ft suits larger loads if the site has room for the truck. A 20ft holds about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage, while a 40ft holds about 2,390 cubic feet, or about 2,690 as a high cube. A 10ft has half a 20ft’s footprint for tight lots, though supply is limited.

Is winter container delivery possible in Deroche?

It depends on the roads in and the state of your site on the day. In the Fraser Valley, heavy rain can leave a driveway or drop spot too soft for a loaded truck, and weather can move a date; Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. A compacted gravel pad that drains well helps, and if the ground is soft or muddy close to delivery day, call before the truck comes.

What should I do to keep a container in good shape in Deroche?

Control condensation, since humidity is the main concern in the Fraser Valley. Keep the built-in vents clear, use desiccants, and never put gear away wet. Set the container on blocks on a well-drained pad so the steel stays out of standing water, keep vegetation off the bottom rail, and wash the outside once a year to remove dirt and any salt.

Do I need a permit for a shipping container in Deroche?

It depends on the property and how you’ll use the container, so check before delivery with the local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. Valleyview isn’t the permit office and can’t confirm what applies to your lot. Ask about zoning, setbacks, lot coverage and whether a permit or siting plan is needed, and get the answer in writing, noting who you spoke to and when.

Read the permits guide
Can I get a custom container build delivered to Deroche?

Yes. Site offices, workshops, cold storage and other builds are made in Valleyview’s Kamloops yard and delivered to Deroche like a plain container, with delivery quoted by distance and site access. Every build starts from an inspected, wind and watertight container, and one itemized quote covers the container, each modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. Timing depends on the spec and is confirmed in your quote.

Custom container builds
Can I rent a shipping container in Deroche?

No. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers anywhere in BC. If you’d rather not pay the full price up front, lease-to-own spreads it into monthly payments on a 20ft or 40ft container, with the payment, term and delivery to Deroche quoted together. Every payment builds toward ownership, you can pay out the balance early, and at the end of the term the container is yours rather than going back.

How lease-to-own works
Where else in the Fraser Valley do you deliver besides Deroche?

All of the Fraser Valley, including Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Hope and Agassiz. Each delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. If your community isn’t listed on the site, call (778) 694-4050: deliveries also go to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.

How do I get a quote for container delivery to Deroche?

Call (778) 694-4050, email valleyviewcontainers@gmail.com, or use the quote form on the website. Say which size and condition you want, how many, and where it’s going; a postal code is enough to start, and the full address or directions are needed before you order. Photos of the access help. The quote is free, doesn’t commit you to buy, and gives one all-in price for the container and delivery.

Sizes & specs

What size container fits a small or tight job site?

Usually a 20ft, or a 10ft where a 20ft will not fit. A 20ft holds the tools and equipment for a specific job, needs less delivery room than a 40ft and is easier to move to the next site. A 10ft has half the footprint of a 20ft, though supply is limited. A 20ft double-door unit opens at both ends, which helps with job-site staging. A 40ft only makes sense where the truck has room to reach the spot.

New & used containers

What colours can I get on a new shipping container?

New 20ft containers can be ordered in a range of standard factory RAL colours, such as RAL 7035 Light Grey, RAL 9010 Pure White, RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey, RAL 6007 Bottle Green and RAL 5010 Gentian Blue, and other RAL colours are available on request. Price varies by colour, so ask for current options when you request a quote. For other new sizes, ask which colours are available.

Prices

What does a new 20ft shipping container cost?

A new one-trip 20ft container is listed at $3,700–$4,200 plus tax and delivery. One-trip means it was loaded once for a single voyage, so it is structurally new, with factory paint and minimal wear. New 20ft units come in a range of factory RAL colours, and pricing varies slightly by colour, so ask for the current colours when you request a quote.

Buying & paying

Can I buy a shipping container online?

Not through an online checkout. The website lets you request a quote, browse the yard inventory and design a custom build in the Container Studio, but there is no payment step on the site. Valleyview sends you a quote for the container and delivery; when you accept it, Valleyview confirms the order with an invoice or confirmation, and you pay under the terms set out there.

Delivery

Can I choose which way the container doors face when it’s delivered?

Usually, within what the truck can reach. Decide before delivery day which way you want the doors to face, include it with your site details when you ask for a quote, and confirm the exact placement and orientation with the driver on arrival. The truck backs in on a straight line and can’t turn while the container comes off, so the spot and the door direction have to suit that approach. If you’re unsure, send photos of the spot first.

What should I do before the delivery truck arrives?

Walk the route from the road to the drop spot and clear it. Confirm gate width and overhead space, move parked vehicles, mark utility lines, and clear the drop area of debris, vehicles and other obstructions. Make sure the spot itself is firm, dry and level. On the day, keep children, pets and everyone else back while the operator works.

Preparing your site

How much room do I need in front of the container doors?

Enough for both doors to swing fully open, plus room to load and unload. Container doors swing wide, so a spot tucked tight against a fence, wall or bank can leave you unable to open them. Check the door layout of the model you are buying and plan clear, level ground in front. Side-door models open along their length, so they need clear space along that side as well.

Owning a container

How should I lock a shipping container to deter theft?

Put a hardened puck lock inside a welded steel lock box, and avoid an open-shackle padlock on a bare hasp, which is easy to cut or pry. A thief goes after the padlock, not the steel walls. Placement helps too: point the doors at the house, shop or site trailer rather than a road or treeline, and back the container against a bank, fence or building to remove approach angles. For tools and machinery, add a crossbar on the locking bars.

Permits & bylaws

Can I put a container garden suite or ADU on my lot?

Your local zoning bylaw decides first, so check with your municipality or regional district before anything else. Ask which term the bylaw uses, the floor area and height limits, setbacks and separation from the house, servicing, parking, which energy requirements apply, whether engineered drawings are required, and whether ALR, a strata or a covenant affects the lot. A suite is a dwelling, so expect a building permit. Valleyview quotes suites per project once it has your address and a floor plan.

Custom builds

Are the modification prices on your website what I’ll actually pay?

They are the rates Valleyview quotes from, but your written quote sets the final number. Published modification prices are before tax and delivery, they can change, and the site shows the date they were last reviewed. Fitment, final scope and anything quoted per design are confirmed in an itemized quote, and nothing is built until you approve it.

Business & lease-to-own

Can a store get a branded storage container for behind the building?

Yes. Storage painted in your store’s colours with your logo looks like part of the business instead of a plain box beside it. A new one-trip container has clean walls that take paint well, and the paint and decals are quoted per design. Check with your local government, and with your landlord if you lease, where a container can sit on the lot.

Refrigerated containers

What kind of power does a reefer container need?

A reefer needs 3-phase power on site to run its refrigeration unit, typically 460V, and some units can be configured for 230V 3-phase. Ordinary single-phase household service generally isn’t enough on its own. Check what electrical service your site has before you order and pass the details to Valleyview, who can advise on what the unit needs and what to ask your electrician.

Uses

Can shipping containers be used for workforce or camp housing?

Yes, as purpose-built crew units. Valleyview’s crew unit starts from an inspected used 40ft high cube with a steel door, two windows, steel stud framing, closed-cell spray foam, a basic electrical package and an HVAC pre-wire. Bunks, partitions, interior finish, washrooms and plumbing are quoted per design, and multi-unit orders get matching specs and staged delivery. People sleep in these units, so check with whoever has jurisdiction, including a Nation’s own process on First Nations land, before you order, and expect a building permit and engineered drawings.
