Sea Cans for Wynndel and the Creston Valley
Serving Wynndel and the Kootenay River Flats
Wynndel sits on Highway 3A beside Duck Creek, east of the Kootenay River and north of Creston. It was first promoted as a strawberry-growing centre, and after dyking in the 1930s much of the nearby flatland turned to grain farming. Sawmilling has been part of the community since the early 1900s. Farm families, mill and logging families, home-based businesses and rural households use containers to keep seed, equipment, tools and stock dry and secure.
Seed, grain and equipment stay dry in a 20ft or 40ft container: the 20ft comes in double-door and side-door versions, and the 40ft in standard or high-cube height, with a high-cube side-door option. Each unit gets a wind and watertight inspection before it ships, and one all-in price covers it and the haul to Wynndel. Dyked farmland can be soft in spring, so we'll ask about ground conditions and where you want it set.

Wynndel shipping container FAQ
Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in Wynndel and across the East Kootenay & Columbia Valley.
Buying in Wynndel
Do you deliver shipping containers to Wynndel, BC?
Yes. Valleyview’s delivery area covers all of British Columbia, including Wynndel, and takes in homes, acreages, businesses, job sites and remote properties. Distance is priced into the delivery quote rather than limiting where containers go, so the questions that matter are whether the truck has a clear way in and room to set the container down.
How much does it cost to deliver a container to Wynndel?
It’s quoted for your site by distance and access; Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone. The price depends on the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in Wynndel, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in. Delivery isn’t included in listed container prices, but the delivery quote itself is free.
How soon can I get a container delivered to Wynndel?
It’s set when you order, not promised ahead. Timing depends on whether the unit you choose is already in Valleyview’s yard or has to be sourced, plus the distance to Wynndel, access at your site, and the roads and weather. Tell Valleyview about any deadline when you ask for a quote, and the delivery window is confirmed with your order.
Is there a Valleyview container yard in Wynndel?
No. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in Wynndel; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot and is quoted delivered to your address. You don’t need to visit to buy: request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form, confirm the order when you accept the quote, and inspect the container when it arrives.
What container sizes can I buy in Wynndel?
All three sizes, 10ft, 20ft and 40ft, can be delivered to Wynndel. The catalogue has the new 10ft; new and used 20ft units, new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; new 40ft high cubes; and used 40ft containers in standard or high cube height. What’s in Valleyview’s yard now is on the live inventory page, other units can be sourced through partner depots, and availability is confirmed with your quote.
Compare all containersCan I see a container before it’s delivered to Wynndel?
Yes, in a few ways. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit physically in the Kamloops yard, with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible. For a unit sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote. If you’re passing through Kamloops, call ahead to arrange a look in person, and inspect the container again when it arrives.
See the yard inventoryDo shipping containers cost more in Wynndel?
They can, for two reasons. Part of a container’s own price depends on where the unit is sourced, which is one reason listed prices are ranges, and delivery to Wynndel is quoted separately for your site. Condition and, for new units, colour move the figure too. Your quote confirms the exact numbers, in Canadian dollars plus tax.
How do I prepare my site for container delivery in Wynndel?
A straight, clear approach for the truck and a firm, level spot for the container. For a 20ft, allow 72 feet of total clear length in a straight line, including where the container will sit, plus at least 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet of overhead clearance; a 40ft needs more, so ask. Compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete works, ideally with blocks under the corners. Before you book, walk the route in and measure the narrowest gate or gap.
Can you deliver to rural or hard-to-reach sites around Wynndel?
Yes, and they’re quoted like any other delivery, by distance and by what the route and site need. Before booking, the route is planned the way it actually drives, including the approach, the turnaround and the set-down. Send GPS coordinates or a map pin for a site without a street address, describe gates, forks and creek crossings, and add photos of the access road and drop spot.
What size container is right for a property in Wynndel?
Choose a 20ft if space or delivery access is tight, and a 40ft if you need volume. A 20ft gives about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage; a 40ft gives about 2,390, or about 2,690 as a high cube, but needs more room for the truck. Check the setbacks that apply to your lot before you choose, and mark the footprint with room for the doors to swing.
Do snow and frozen ground affect container delivery in Wynndel?
They can, in both directions. In the East Kootenay and Columbia Valley, snow, ice and road conditions can move a date, and Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. Frozen ground can make some sites easier to reach, and remote sites are planned around seasonal access windows. Clear snow from the route and drop spot, and choose a spot that stays firm after the thaw.
What should I do to keep a container in good shape in Wynndel?
Plan for temperature swings and winter cold. Keep snow and wet leaves off the roof, keep the vents clear and use desiccants so condensation doesn’t drip on your things. Avoid heating it on and off, which is harder on a container than no heat at all. Before winter, put graphite or a dry silicone lubricant in the lock, and after the spring thaw check that the container is still level.
What are the rules for placing a shipping container in Wynndel?
It depends on your property and how you’ll use the container, so ask the local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address before ordering; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. The answer can change if you modify the container or live or work in it. Ask about the zone, setbacks, lot coverage, any permit or siting plan, and whether ALR, a floodplain or a covenant applies, then get the answer in writing.
Read the permits guideCan you build a container office or workshop for a site in Wynndel?
Yes. Custom builds are done in Valleyview’s own yard in Kamloops, where openings are cut and framing, insulation, electrical rough-in and any paint are added, then the finished container is delivered to Wynndel, usually by tilt-deck. You approve one itemized quote covering the container, every modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. You can start from a sketch, photos or a design made in the Container Studio.
Custom container buildsIs lease-to-own available for containers delivered to Wynndel?
Yes. Lease-to-own is offered on 20ft and 40ft containers delivered to Wynndel, with the monthly payment, the term and delivery itemized in one up-front quote. The monthly cost depends on the container’s size, condition and your delivery location. Every payment builds toward ownership, and you can ask for a payout figure at any time. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers; lease-to-own is the monthly option.
How lease-to-own worksDo you deliver to other towns in the East Kootenay and Columbia Valley besides Wynndel?
Yes. Deliveries in the East Kootenay and Columbia Valley also go to Cranbrook, Kimberley, Fernie, Sparwood and Elkford, along with the rest of the region. Every delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. Don’t see your community on the site? Call (778) 694-4050; Valleyview delivers to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.
How do I get a quote for container delivery to Wynndel?
Call (778) 694-4050, email valleyviewcontainers@gmail.com, or use the quote form on the website. Say which size and condition you want, how many, and where it’s going; a postal code is enough to start, and the full address or directions are needed before you order. Photos of the access help. The quote is free, doesn’t commit you to buy, and gives one all-in price for the container and delivery.
Sizes & specs
How do I know if my items will fit through a container’s doors?
Compare your tallest item with the door opening, not the ceiling. The opening is about five inches lower than the interior height: roughly 7ft 5in on a standard container and 8ft 5in on a high cube. Measure the tallest item, add six inches for forklift tines or a ramp angle, and pick the container that clears that number. Interior width is about 7ft 8in; ask Valleyview to confirm the door opening width on the unit you are buying.
New & used containers
How old is a used shipping container?
It varies from unit to unit. A used container has typically spent years in shipping service, while a one-trip container’s manufacturer’s plate is usually only a year or two old. For storage, condition matters more than age: tight seals, a solid floor and only surface rust count for more than the build date. If age matters to you, ask for the details of the specific unit with your quote.
Prices
How much more does a high cube cost than a standard-height container?
In used 40ft containers, a high cube is listed at $3,500–$4,000 against $3,300–$3,600 for standard height, a difference of $200 at the low end of each range, before tax and delivery. For that you get a foot of extra height and about 300 more cubic feet on the same footprint, with the same site preparation. The extra headroom suits tall equipment, palletized goods and workshops that need room to stand and work.
Buying & paying
What does a container quote from Valleyview include?
A quote prices the container and delivery to your address together, so you see the all-in price for both before you commit, with applicable GST and PST added. The delivery portion depends on distance and site access, which is why it’s quoted for your specific site rather than listed. If you add doors, windows, insulation or other modifications, each one is itemized line by line on the same quote, so you can see what every part of the job costs.
Delivery
What should I do before the delivery truck arrives?
Walk the route from the road to the drop spot and clear it. Confirm gate width and overhead space, move parked vehicles, mark utility lines, and clear the drop area of debris, vehicles and other obstructions. Make sure the spot itself is firm, dry and level. On the day, keep children, pets and everyone else back while the operator works.
Read the delivery guideHow is a shipping container delivered?
By tilt-deck. Most deliveries use a tilt-deck truck or trailer whose deck tilts down hydraulically so the container slides off the back onto your prepared site. A 20ft container is delivered on a pickup with a 22-foot deckover tilt trailer. The truck can’t turn while the container is coming off, so it needs a straight, clear path and firm, level ground where the container will sit.
Preparing your site
Is it a good idea to put a container under trees?
An open spot is easier to look after. Overhanging trees drop wet leaves and debris that sit on the roof and trap moisture against the steel, a common cause of corrosion, so a container under trees needs its roof cleared more often. Low limbs also matter on delivery day: the truck needs 16 feet of clear height, free of branches and power lines, so trim them or choose another spot before you book.
Owning a container
What maintenance does a shipping container need each year?
Walk around it once a year looking for deep scratches, dents and bubbling paint, especially on the roof and corners, and treat any surface rust. Wash the outside, grease the hinge pins and locking bars, and check the door gaskets for cracks or tears. Confirm it is still level after the spring thaw, check the blocks for cracking or shifting, keep the vents clear and make sure water drains away from the base.
Container maintenance guidePermits & bylaws
Is a temporary container treated differently from a permanent one?
It can be, so tell your local government which you mean. A container brought in for a season or a single project may be handled differently from one that stays, and some placements come with a time limit. Ask whether a time limit applies, what happens when it runs out, and what changes if you later decide to keep the container on the property.
Custom builds
What should I tell you about power before you wire a custom container?
Tell Valleyview everything that will draw power and where the power will come from. The basic electrical package suits lights, chargers and hand tools. A welder, compressor or electric heater needs a dedicated 240V circuit, and an espresso machine, commercial fridge or draft cooler each wants its own circuit, so list that equipment when you ask for a quote. Those circuits are roughed in per design, and your electrician connects the panel to the site’s supply.
Business & lease-to-own
Can a store get a branded storage container for behind the building?
Yes. Storage painted in your store’s colours with your logo looks like part of the business instead of a plain box beside it. A new one-trip container has clean walls that take paint well, and the paint and decals are quoted per design. Check with your local government, and with your landlord if you lease, where a container can sit on the lot.
Refrigerated containers
What is a reefer container?
A reefer is a refrigerated shipping container: an insulated steel box with its own refrigeration unit on one end. The unit draws air from inside, cools or heats it to the set temperature and circulates it through a T-shaped floor so the temperature stays even from bottom to top. The walls are filled with high-density polyurethane foam. Valleyview sells a 20ft reefer for cold or frozen storage.
Reefer container guideUses
Can a shipping container be used for cold or frozen storage?
Yes, in two ways: a factory 20ft refrigerated (reefer) container with its own refrigeration unit, or a standard 20ft or 40ft converted with framing, closed-cell spray foam and a bolt-on refrigeration unit, quoted per design. To match one to the job, Valleyview asks what you’re storing, the target temperature, the volume, how often the door opens and what power is on site. A reefer needs 3-phase power, typically 460V, or a generator off the grid, and either route needs a firm, level pad.
