Shipping Containers in D'Arcy, BC
Containers for the Head of Anderson Lake
Serving D'Arcy and the Gates Valley
D'Arcy sits at the head of Anderson Lake, where the Gates River flows in at the foot of the Gates Valley, and is home to the N'Quatqua First Nation. Founded as Port Anderson on the gold rush Lakes Route, it was renamed D'Arcy when the railway was built. Lake lot owners use a container to keep a boat, motor and dock gear out of the weather, or as a locked base during a cabin build.
A 20ft has room for a small boat and gear, a 40ft high-cube for building materials, and side doors make everything easier to reach. We inspect every container to be wind and watertight, and one quote covers the unit and the haul through Birken. Access to lake lots varies, so describe the last stretch to your lot, and winter roads can affect timing.

D'Arcy shipping container FAQ
Straight answers on buying, delivering and setting up a container in D'Arcy and across the Sea-to-Sky.
Buying in D'Arcy
Does Valleyview Containers deliver to D’Arcy?
Yes. Valleyview delivers new and used containers to homes, businesses and job sites in D’Arcy and across the Sea-to-Sky corridor, most of them set down by a tilt-deck truck that slides the container onto your prepared site. Distance changes the delivery quote rather than whether D’Arcy is served; what decides whether a particular site works is the route in and the access at the drop spot.
How much does it cost to deliver a container to D’Arcy?
It’s quoted for your site by distance and access; Valleyview doesn’t publish a flat delivery rate or a free-delivery zone. The price depends on the distance from where the container ships (the Kamloops yard or a partner depot) to your address in D’Arcy, the roads on the way in, and how easily the truck can line up and back in. Delivery isn’t included in listed container prices, but the delivery quote itself is free.
How soon can I get a container delivered to D’Arcy?
It’s set when you order, not promised ahead. Timing depends on whether the unit you choose is already in Valleyview’s yard or has to be sourced, plus the distance to D’Arcy, access at your site, and the roads and weather. Tell Valleyview about any deadline when you ask for a quote, and the delivery window is confirmed with your order.
Is there a Valleyview container yard in D’Arcy?
No. Valleyview’s only yard is in Kamloops, at D3-1764 Kelly Douglas Rd, and Valleyview doesn’t operate a depot in D’Arcy; your container comes from that yard or from a partner depot and is quoted delivered to your address. You don’t need to visit to buy: request a quote by phone, email or the website’s quote form, confirm the order when you accept the quote, and inspect the container when it arrives.
What container sizes can I buy in D’Arcy?
All three sizes, 10ft, 20ft and 40ft, can be delivered to D’Arcy. The catalogue has the new 10ft; new and used 20ft units, new 20ft double-door and side-door units and a 20ft refrigerated container; new 40ft high cubes; and used 40ft containers in standard or high cube height. What’s in Valleyview’s yard now is on the live inventory page, other units can be sourced through partner depots, and availability is confirmed with your quote.
Compare all containersCan I see a container before it’s delivered to D’Arcy?
Yes, in a few ways. Each listing on the live inventory page is a unit physically in the Kamloops yard, with a photo when available, its recorded condition and its unit number when legible. For a unit sourced from a partner depot, ask what photos and condition details come with your quote. If you’re passing through Kamloops, call ahead to arrange a look in person, and inspect the container again when it arrives.
See the yard inventoryIs the listed price what I’ll pay for a container in D’Arcy?
The listed range is a guide to the container itself, and your quote confirms the exact figure. Where a container lands in its range depends on its condition, its colour if it’s new and where it’s sourced, which is why buyers in different towns can see different figures for the same container. Prices are in Canadian dollars plus tax, with delivery quoted separately.
How do I prepare my site for container delivery in D’Arcy?
Firm, level ground and room for the tilt-deck truck. The spot should be dry and load-bearing, such as compacted gravel, asphalt or concrete, with blocks or railway ties under the corners recommended. For a 20ft, the truck needs 72 feet of straight, clear length including the container’s final spot, 10 to 12 feet of width and 16 feet overhead; a 40ft needs more. Look up along the route in, too: hydro lines, branches and carport roofs all count against that overhead space.
Can you deliver to rural or hard-to-reach sites around D’Arcy?
Yes. The service area takes in rural, remote and off-grid sites around D’Arcy. Valleyview’s trucks run gravel roads, forest service roads and seasonal access, and each route is planned before the truck leaves: approach, turnaround and set-down, with a backup plan where a bridge weight rating is in question. Describe gates, creek crossings and the last stretch in, and send GPS coordinates or a map pin if the site has no street address.
What size container is right for a property in D’Arcy?
Choose a 20ft if space or delivery access is tight, and a 40ft if you need volume. A 20ft gives about 1,170 cubic feet on a footprint roughly the size of a single-car garage; a 40ft gives about 2,390, or about 2,690 as a high cube, but needs more room for the truck. Check the setbacks that apply to your lot before you choose, and mark the footprint with room for the doors to swing.
Does winter weather affect container delivery in D’Arcy?
It can, through the roads and through the ground. In the Sea-to-Sky corridor, snow, ice or heavy rain can affect the roads and soften the ground, and weather can move a date; Valleyview’s terms exclude liability for weather delays. Remote sites are planned around seasonal access windows. Clear snow from the route and drop spot, and call before delivery day if the ground is soft.
How do I look after a shipping container through the seasons in D’Arcy?
Plan for both wet weather and cold. Keep the vents clear and use desiccants to control condensation, keep snow and wet leaves off the roof, and set the container on blocks on a well-drained pad so the steel stays out of standing water. Avoid heating it on and off, put graphite or a dry silicone lubricant in the lock before winter, and check the container is still level after the thaw.
Who do I ask about shipping container rules in D’Arcy?
The local government or other authority responsible for land use at your address, usually through its planning or building department; on First Nation reserve land, that’s the Nation’s own lands, housing or public works process. If the parcel is in the ALR, say so on the first call, since that changes which office you deal with. Valleyview isn’t the permit office and can’t confirm what applies to your lot, so give them your address and what the container is for, and ask before it’s delivered.
Read the permits guideCan I get a custom container build delivered to D’Arcy?
Yes. Custom builds are done in Valleyview’s own yard in Kamloops, where openings are cut and framing, insulation, electrical rough-in and any paint are added, then the finished container is delivered to D’Arcy, usually by tilt-deck. You approve one itemized quote covering the container, every modification and delivery before any steel gets cut. You can start from a sketch, photos or a design made in the Container Studio.
Custom container buildsIs lease-to-own available for containers delivered to D’Arcy?
Yes. Lease-to-own is offered on 20ft and 40ft containers delivered to D’Arcy, with the monthly payment, the term and delivery itemized in one up-front quote. The monthly cost depends on the container’s size, condition and your delivery location. Every payment builds toward ownership, and you can ask for a payout figure at any time. Valleyview doesn’t rent containers; lease-to-own is the monthly option.
How lease-to-own worksDo you deliver to other towns in the Sea-to-Sky corridor besides D’Arcy?
Yes. Deliveries in the Sea-to-Sky corridor also go to Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Britannia Beach and Furry Creek, along with the rest of the region. Every delivery is quoted for its own address by distance and site access. Don’t see your community on the site? Call (778) 694-4050; Valleyview delivers to off-grid sites, ranches, First Nations communities and end-of-road locations across BC.
How do I get a quote for container delivery to D’Arcy?
Call (778) 694-4050, email valleyviewcontainers@gmail.com, or use the quote form on the website. Say which size and condition you want, how many, and where it’s going; a postal code is enough to start, and the full address or directions are needed before you order. Photos of the access help. The quote is free, doesn’t commit you to buy, and gives one all-in price for the container and delivery.
Sizes & specs
What size container fits a small or tight job site?
Usually a 20ft, or a 10ft where a 20ft will not fit. A 20ft holds the tools and equipment for a specific job, needs less delivery room than a 40ft and is easier to move to the next site. A 10ft has half the footprint of a 20ft, though supply is limited. A 20ft double-door unit opens at both ends, which helps with job-site staging. A 40ft only makes sense where the truck has room to reach the spot.
New & used containers
Which grade should I buy if I might sell the container or ship it overseas later?
If you might ship it overseas one day, stick to one-trip or cargo-worthy, the two grades that still carry cargo, and ask whether the specific unit has a CSC plate, which international shipping requires. No one can promise what a container will be worth later, so buy for the job in front of you. Whatever the grade, a container kept on a level, well-drained pad, with its rust treated and its door seals cared for, stays in better shape.
Prices
How much more does a new 20ft container cost than a used one?
A new one-trip 20ft is listed at $3,700–$4,200 and a used cargo-worthy 20ft at $2,500–$3,000, a difference of $1,200 at the low end of each range, before tax and delivery. Both hold about 1,170 cubic feet. The extra buys factory paint in a choice of RAL colours, minimal wear and a manufacturer’s warranty. The used unit shows surface rust and dents and is sold without a warranty except as required by law, but it’s inspected and wind and watertight before it’s sold.
Container condition gradesBuying & paying
What payment methods do you accept for a shipping container?
Valleyview’s listed payment methods are cash, cheque and bank transfer. The payment terms for your order, including any deposit and when the balance is due, are set out on your invoice, so confirm how you’ll pay when you accept your quote rather than on delivery day.
Delivery
Can I pick up a container from the yard myself?
Ask first, because customer pickup isn’t a published option. Valleyview delivers by tilt-deck truck, so call (778) 694-4050 to ask whether collecting the unit you want is possible and what loading it would involve. If delivery suits you better, the delivery quote is free and is priced to the site the container is actually going to.
Do I need to be there when the container is delivered?
Yes. You or someone you designate must be on site during delivery to confirm placement, inspect the container and sign the delivery receipt. If you can’t be there yourself, send someone who knows exactly where the container should go and which way the doors should face, and who will check it over and note any damage on the receipt before signing.
Preparing your site
How level does the ground need to be for a shipping container?
As level as you can make it, end to end and side to side. The practical test is the doors: both should swing open, close and seal without forcing. A container on uneven ground twists, which makes the doors hard to open and close, and doors that do not seat properly cannot lock properly. Get the pad level, and any blocks level with each other, before delivery day, while nothing is sitting on them.
Owning a container
How can I tell if my container is actually leaking?
Stand inside with the doors shut and look for pinholes of daylight, especially along the roof and the door seals. On the floor, a dark ring usually marks a leak, while a long dark streak is more likely an old spill. Water with no daylight above it may be condensation instead. If a container you bought from Valleyview has a defect that was not disclosed at the time of sale, contact Valleyview right away to discuss a resolution.
Permits & bylaws
Can I put a container garden suite or ADU on my lot?
Your local zoning bylaw decides first, so check with your municipality or regional district before anything else. Ask which term the bylaw uses, the floor area and height limits, setbacks and separation from the house, servicing, parking, which energy requirements apply, whether engineered drawings are required, and whether ALR, a strata or a covenant affects the lot. A suite is a dwelling, so expect a building permit. Valleyview quotes suites per project once it has your address and a floor plan.
Garden suite guideCustom builds
Is the colour I pick in the Container Studio the colour I’ll get?
It is a preference, not a guarantee. The studio offers forest green, container white, graphite, sandstone and coastal blue, and Valleyview confirms colour availability and any paint cost in your quote. If you need a particular colour, custom paint in a factory RAL colour can be applied at the Kamloops yard before delivery, which is easier than painting on site. Logos, lettering and full-side graphics are quoted through the container branding service.
Business & lease-to-own
What happens to a container site office when the project ends?
It can move to your next site or stay on as a yard office or storage. Your electrician disconnects the power feed, and the office lifts back onto a tilt-deck truck by its corner castings with the framing, insulation and wiring left in place. Each move is quoted like a delivery, by distance and site access. Check the placement rules with the local government wherever it goes next.
Container site officesRefrigerated containers
Is your refrigerated container new or used?
The catalogue lists the reefer in its own Refrigerated category rather than as new or used, so ask about the age and condition of the specific container and its refrigeration unit when you get a quote. Before delivery, a stock reefer is checked, run and set to your temperature in Valleyview’s yard. As with any container, inspect it on delivery and note any damage on the delivery receipt.
Uses
Can a shipping container house a generator, pump or control panel?
Yes. An equipment enclosure needs secure access, airflow sized to the equipment and sealed paths for cable and pipe. Valleyview’s enclosure package starts from an inspected used 20ft with a steel personnel door; vents, penetrations, insulation, sound attenuation and larger electrical service are quoted per design. Send the make, model, dimensions, weight, airflow and clearance figures, a site photo and the power available. Fuel supply, the exhaust run and commissioning stay with your equipment supplier.
